I went from a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 to a Sony RX100II. I was happy with both. I did like the range on the TZ5 but the quality on the Sony... I still own both cameras, but I'm getting the feeling of upgrading. What do you all suggest in the same physical size camera for me.

Sony RX10 or Panasonic FZ1000. Same image quality as your rx100 but much more zoom.

So in reality, what I have in the physical size camera is about as good as it gets...

If physical size is the issue, the only "pocketable" cameras with larger APS-C sensors have fixed focal length lenses, with the Nikon Coolpix A, Ricoh GR and Fujifilm X100T series being examples.

There isn't a lot of competition for the RX100 because the point-and-shoot market is withering away. People tend to use smartphones.

If you're happy with the camera that you own, don't worry about upgrading.

Well that makes total sense. I don't own a smart phone. I will have to pysically see the Sony RX10, but it looks interesting. Do you think the Sony RX10 will take better pics then the RX100II at the same vocal lenght?

If you need small size, good image quality and good zoom range, then the RX100 cameras might be the best you can get and still accomplish all three goals. Your only upgrade option might be to get an RX100 III or RX100 IV. Anything else will be too big for you, even though it might provide more range or better image quality.

Here is what is available today in small cameras with decent image quality:
  • Sony RX100 - Very small, pretty good image quality, decent zoom range.
  • Panasonic GM1 - Very small but only with pancake lenses, excellent image quality.
  • Nikon 1 J5 - Very small but only with pancake lenses, pretty good image quality.
  • Samsung NX-Mini - Very small but only with pancake lenses. Limited lens choices.
  • Ricoh GR - Small and slim, but single focal length. Outstanding image quality.
  • Sony RX10 - Freaking HUGE, but pretty good image quality, and great zoom range.
As you can see, your best bet might be to just keep what you have, or buy a newer RX100 model.

Panasonic GM5 if you don't mind buying a few extra lenses to carry (but only when needed....).

Yes, I have the gm1 and gm5 and really love my gm5. I love slo mo video which is what I bought it for. and I stick my 35-100 lens on it a lot

I think you may just have a bad case of GAS. Your RX100 is as good as it gets in that size range. With compact cameras you can get a larger sensor with a shorter zoom or a smaller sensor with a longer zoom, but you can't have both.

If you want a pocket size camera with a long zoom, good image quality, and an EVF consider the Panasonic ZS50 (TZ70). I recently got one, and I'm very impressed with it, even with its small sensor.

No gas...just havn't been on the forum for a long time. Just wondering if there is a better pocket camera then the one I have.
