I'm a fairly avid amateur photographer. I have pretty basic equipment, but I really enjoy taking pictures, and I think that most non-photographers would say that I'm reasonably good at it. I know that I have plenty of room for improvement, so I'm including 2 samples for feedback.

In the first shot, I think you should either zoom in more to show more detail in the leaves, or zoom out to show more of the tree in its environment. None of the leaves appear to be well focused to my aging eyes.

In the 2nd, it looks like your main subject is out of focus.

I'm also an aspiring amateur, so take this with a grain of salt :)

#1 Composition is uninspiring and doesn't say much. Showing a whole tree against blue sky would be cool, like this

or showing foliage on the ground

or even showing a couple of individual leaves against the sky or something else to give contrast. There are many cool things that could be done to make it more interesting.

#2 the huge out of focus flower in the foreground really bothers me. It's framed in a way that makes it a subject of the photo, but it's blurry. Also, interaction between the foreground flowers with the background flowers is a bit messy. It's cool to have two "layers" of flowers, some in the foreground, and some in the back, but they overlap in a way that makes it less pleasant to watch. Here's few similar examples that work for me. The second one has a single flower as a subject and a couple of smaller flowers slightly blurry in the back, but they work together without stepping on each other's toes

What is the subject of this image?
Simply the juxtaposition of the sunflowers against the water.

The big flower being out of focus was deliberate.
Have to agree with some others. Deliberate or not, it doesn't seem to translate very well in the image because it is so dominant in the frame. If the main sunflower was the one in focus, I think it would've been quite a nice image.
