You've already answered your own question. You're not in great need of high quality and the associated costs. You want to spend only a few dollars. The R2052 is a good value lens. You'll probably need to crop away the outer areas of the images you take. So the lens itself may be perfect for what you need.
Just a quick question.

Is it worth buying a VCL-R2052 to use with a dsc-s70?

The thing is, i am not a quality freak, i cant spend too much. but
is it worth the
80 dollars?

Or is there a much better alternative? what are the alternatives?

Oh!
and the links to my galleries! new york photos.

CDW.com sells it for $54. From discussion on this forum it does not seem a particularly high quality lens, so you might also look at competition in Raynox, Tiffen, Kenko.

If you don't mind doing some cropping, the C180 lens from Olympus is a fairly high quality unit, though it does produce some vignetting; it has 52mm threads. I've used it with Olympus 2020; results may be slightly different with the S70. It's $40 at jandr.com (if you are in the USA).

Apart from the vignetting, those images look fine. The C2020 has a smaller than 52mm doens't it? Would that make the S70 or 505v less likely to suffer from vignetting? Seems a good deal cheaper than the B300

I think the lens on the S70 (unlike the bigger 505) is about the same size as that of C2020; the latter has an adapter tube arrangement similar to S70, with a thread size of 43mm - I added a 43-52mm step-up ring. The advantage of B300 is that it does not cause vignetting at full zoom (and even a bit below full zoom) on the C2020; the C180 is lighter (plastic body) and more compact, so it allows me to use the built-in flash without blocking it - this has helped me a few times to get the shot; this may or may not be the case with the S70. Andreas P. has some experience of using the C180 with the Sony 505, he's posted some samples and comments.

Thanks for posting those samples, Misha. So often we see these lenses standing alone and never get any idea of their size relative to the camera. I appreciated the sample you had of it attached to the 2020z.
