My Nikon 1 J4 was not repaired because:

repair value exceeds the market value of the camera.

Why 2 years of guarantee?

What is the market value and did they offer that amount to you?

Wait a minute...Are you saying that your J4 is still under garantee, and that they refused to repair it ???

If that's the case, really, it's a shame. I think that in France, that would be illegal.

I fully agree with you. I had over the years three warranty issues and Nikon always resolved the issues within two to three weeks no questions asked. If the repair would exceed the market value for a camera under warranty Nikon would simply replace the camera with a refurbished unit. We simply are not told the real story!

I bought the Nikon 1 J4 in February 2015... So it will be in guarantee until February 2017.

Sorry to hear of your problem.

I think you are not telling us the whole story. The camera is clearly still under warranty and would be normally fixed by Nikon free of charge (or they might replace it) unless they have determined that the fault is caused by damage or other out of warranty incident. In the latter case they could tell you that it is not worth while repairing it because of cost. If they are refusing to honor the warranty, please tell us why so that we can advise.

Perhaps you can explain more

It is up to Nikon to decide whether or not to repair if it is under warranty. If they decide not to then they must replace it. Surly there must be a misunderstanding somewhere.

Where did you buy it and where are you trying to get it fixed? Something is missing here, something is wrong in your story.

Nikon Portugal sent me another e-mail:

"technical service reports that your camera has an oxide problem by Water and the repair of that cost much more than a new model of the same"

OK that makes more sense. So they, Nikon is essentially saying "You got the camera wet - and ruined it -your fault".

So if the camera was not water damaged you need to likely protest and write a letter. But damage (water, drops, fire etc) are not covered by the warranty, only defects.

You mean you dropped it in the see... because just some normal rain, mist, fog, snow make a camera wet but it won't ever cause any serious problems.

Note that if this is not true then you should call them and complain. If the camera is under warranty then they have to proof you caused the damage. The technician's words are not enough.
