I use my Sony RX100 Mk iii for a lot of video and I'm not really a fan of holding the camera in my hand whilst doing so. To this end I'm hoping to find a tiny tripod (like one of those tiny 'bendy leg' ones for compact cameras) that can function as both a tripod but also a pistol grip for filming. I keep my camera on my belt in a small case, though, and I'd like to leave the tripod on as much as possible, so I'm hoping there might be a flat-folding tripod that's small enough to be left on the camera and still fit into my little pouch....?

Any suggestions?

So far I've found this:

Which looks okay but is a little big for my camera pouch....

Cullmann makes the MAGIC aluminum SystemPod that folds flat for transport.

Cullmann - MAGIC SystemPod CB6.3 with ball head CROSS CB6.3

Not so good as a pistol grip, but the Joby micro hybrid folds fairly flat.

(...and is more likely to fit in your camera pouch than that Cullman Magic systempod)

I have an Ultrapod II that is an odd little device with a built-in ball-head of sorts.

It's extremely versatile and tiny. It's a little awkward to use, but it could be left attached and used as a pistol grip, handle or mini monopod. It isn't flat, but it doesn't take up much space.

It's probably more of a "hiking" or outdoor set-up where you might need to lash it to something. I don't use it a lot, but there always seems to be some way to make it work.

I have a SUNPAK flat compact tripod that is basically identical to the one in your amazon link. After reading your post, I connected it to my RX100IV, and when the top plate to leg angle is locked at about 45 degrees, the folded flat legs could be used as a pistol type grip for video.

You might also consider Sony's shooting grip with remote control mini tripod:

The remote control for zooming and starting/stopping video would be useful.

Had the same problem they don't make models I like anymore, but I looked for a second hand on eBay. Three small metal legs can be fold into the grip and despite it's looks fragile it's very rigid (all copper messing). Use it also as chestpod as I read in a article BoB Krist (link)
