Dust on new Fuji X-T1?

Hey all,

I loved the Fuji X-T1 that I purchased for myself recently so much that I ended up buying one for my sister as well (who's been asking for a DSLR, but I feel the Fuji X system would be much better for her!)

The thing is, when we removed the XT1 from the packaging last night, we noticed that there was a lot of dust on the rubber eyepiece and a good number of dust on the body as well. The sensor appears to be fine (although it looks like there are some engravings on the sensor that I don’t recognize). The body was still in the bag with the Fuji sticker.

Just wanted to ask – is this normal? Am I overthinking things here?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Sounds like it's been out on display and carefully repackaged. I'd take it back.
You think so? That's a little bit troubling, considering that I picked it up from B&H...

Fuji uses a strange material for the eye cups. Nothing like that on my Nikons past. It seems like it sucks dust from the whole room and is impossible to remove. I have even removed it and used one of those shiny auto preservatives on it and it only helps for a little while.

The rest of my X-T1 was spotless when I got mine from B&H.

Thanks for the response! So you're saying that your XT1's eyepiece had dust on it as well when you received it, right? In that event, I'll just write it off as an anomaly and be done with it. Thanks again!

Never noticed dust, I got the extended eye cup for the XT-1 from B&H. I buy everything from them and 99.9% of the time all is ok. All you can do is order another new XT-1 and look at it to be sure by side and return one XT-1. It will be faster than the exchange process.

I agree with your premise, but that seems like an overreaction. Being on display and handled a little bit won't break it. You're just gonna take it out into the world anyway, and it will encounter plenty of dust.

Sure, if there's an actual problem, send it back. But there probably isn't.

True. The Fuji seal was still on the camera packaging, though. I feel like it would be difficult to break the seal, take the camera out and then reseal it without it being noticeable.

Thanks for your response!
If the Fuji seal is like the one we have in the UK, it's impossible to open without causing diagonal VOID wording to appear - the label is silver with black Fujifilm markings and by design, the adhesive pulls the silver off to make the VOID wordings appear by leaving these areas clear (ish).
