I have an A7R II and Sony 55/1.8 lens. I'm new to mirrorless cameras.

I'm taking test shots of a resolution chart to test my lens for decentering. What I can't figure out is how to zoom in on image to see if the chart is in critical focus. On my 5D I go into live view and click on the magnify button.

I see the magnify button marked "C3" but when I click that all it does it bring up the focus mode menu.

I've read the manual and still can't get it to work.

So, if someone could please help a noob out I'd appreciate it. ;-)

Thanks!

First hit the Play button to call up the image, then C3 should zoom in (and the AF-MF/AEL switch button zooms out).

If you are talking about magnifying before taking the shot, you want to switch focus mode to DMF then the focus ring should start the magnification automatically.

Mike,

How do I magnify the focus in other modes such as AF-S?

Thanks.

Well I believe DMF is just af-s with the ability to manually adjust after lock. You can set a button for focus assist magnification, but I'm not sure if it will work outside of DMF or MF.

Indeed, it doesn't. And yes, DMF is another way to say "AF-S/M". :)

(My bad, up topic, thinking image review zoom).
