Hello everyone,

this is my first time posting here after lurking around for quite some time. I would like to introduce myself in the only reasonable way on a photography forum: with photos of course!

Any commentary and critique on these images is highly appreciated as there a) is always a way to improve and b) i am only 6 months into the journey of intentionally taking pictures of pretty places.

The view in my hometown (Bitburg, Germany) behind one of the most generic buildings in existence, the local McDonalds.

Welcome, this is good stuff for a mere 6months of photography

For more critical appraisal feel free to read my comments after each photo...
I really like this - but wonder if it couldn't be improved with better placement of fence. Maybe it would work better non-panoramic. Try cropping out the whole picture left of the center tree.

Again, nice shot - but too much empty space top left sky. for my tastes this would have been better if you'd waited for some more cloud to drift into that space. Of course, you may have lost the 'interesting light' on the trees

Welcome!

If you travel a lot, I think you'll find this forum useful. I post questions about where I'm headed and because the posters here are photographers, that's how their replies are based -- light, time of day, gear, etc.

I try to return the favor when possible.

I agree with the previous poster, and on the first photo, I might have tried moving left a few steps for a better angle on the fence.

the third shot intrigues me. Could you get up to that old ruin for some detailed shots? Maybe try lying down at the base of the tower and shooting straight up, a severe vertical.

Thank you, both for the appraisal and the comments on the photos. :-)

The cropped version. I like that the yellow fields are more prominent and i think it makes it the better version. But i also think that the fence in conjunction with the clouds introduce some kind of diagonal diversion. As if the eyes "overshoot" the fields by going from the fence to the clouds.

I'll try to keep this in mind. And try to think of something to keep my wife busy while waiting :-D

I will also try to keep in mind to post the best shots at the end of the post. :-)

I will try this next time around to see if it improves the image and if it does try to get a better shot next spring. I am slowly realizing that scouting/knowing a location in advance helps a lot in getting the best picture.

You can get up there and I will try that next time i'm around the area. Unfortunately we had only an hour in the town as it was only a quick stop on our way to Koblenz for "Rhein in Flammen".
