I bought my G3 about 2 months ago as an absolute beginner and have learned the basics from scratch. However, I’m taking my beautiful toy to Sri Lanka next month and would like to get some extra kit.

Bearing in mind that I’m still basically a beginner what kind of lenses would you recommend for my trip? I’d say most of all I enjoy taking portraits, macro-pics and night shots (or long exposures essentially). I haven’t had chance to take many landscape shots yet – but anticipate some wonderful sunsets and very colourful life in Sri Lanka.

Please advise as I would like to return with some stunning shots.

Thanks in advance.

Yikes, you must have posted right after I searched for the same answers :)

I am also an absolute digital beginner and am enjoying my toy inmmensely .. With my 35 mm cameras, I have used graduated nd filters for bright beach scenes.. I have also used star filters for handheld night shots and to play with sunsets and sunrises ..

Sounds like a fabulous trip !

Sorry I dont have a specific answer for you, I guess we will be educated together!

Hi,

I would buy a lens adapter with circular polarisation filter. It deepens the blue sky, removes reflections and gives more color saturation. After reading much threads in this forum I recently decided to buy these accessoires for my upcoming holiday in France.

Either a circular or a linear polariser will do the job. A UV filter might be good fortoo when you don't use the polorizer. See http://www.lensmateonline.com/g3.html in particular for lens adaptors.

If you got the money: Buy a Speedlite 420EX.
In Sri Lanka it's really dark at night, and a external flash
I'm shure will make you som awesom portraits at the evening/night.

I would have to agree with lensmate adapter from lensmateonline is essential. Along with that a circular polariser & tripod. The macro lenses
if your going for small things only. Have fun
