Move from Canon DSLR to Fuji X-T10 or X-T1?

Over the years I've collected quite a range of Canon lenses, many primes and a few very good zoom lenses eg ESM 15-85, 50mm 1.4, 35mm 1.5, etc etc but since I bought my Fuji X100s I've hardly used it. Gathering dust, I love the X100s. But, every now and again i miss the ability to change lenses, eg kids sports, some landscape etc and miss the lenses I have, so thinking of getting rid of all the Canon stuff and going full time Fuji, but which?

Read a lot, seems very little difference between the Fuji X-T1 and the X-T10 apart from flash, weatherproofing, better EVF etc but nothing major so inclined to the X-T10. Did look at a used, and now very cheap X-Pro 1 but seems rather dated now and maybe replacement due soon.

So looking around I've found a good deal for a new X-T1 with FUJINON XF18-55 mm F2.8-4.0 at 1,149€, or the X-T10 at 849€ but with the Fujinon XC16-50mm II. Seems the X-T1 is a really good price with that lens.

Can anyone advise if its worth spending the extra on the X-T1 or maybe going for the X-T10 with that 16-50 lens and use the money saved towards new lenses. I could look for the X-T10 with the XF18-55 lens but think the price then would be the same as the X-T1 with that lens. Or, just wait for maybe the X-Pro 2 which can't be far off.

Very confused. If anyone can advise it would be much appreciated.

Not looking forward to getting rid of all the Canon stuff, time consuming via eBay.

I went from a 7D and a pile of lenses to an X-T1 with three primes last year when the X-T1 came out and it's been a great change. I have been definitely more engaged in the whole process since making the changes, have worked through some good projects, and have no regrets.

I can't say anything about the X-T10, as I have yet to see one in reality, but for me the biggest advantage of the X-T1 over any other camera I've used in recent years is that beautiful viewfinder. I really appreciate its size, clarity, and the fact that it shows the precise exposure (as with all EVFs, I suppose). I very rarely chimp anymore as I know I've gotten the shot. Don't discount the value of the larger viewfinder - it is your window on the world.

Outside of that, the X-T1 is a perfect ergonomic fit for me with average size hands. I know this camera by muscle memory. I love the subtle grip and the dial-focused layout. And the LENSES - fantastic. Word is that the 18-55 is good, but I've found the 23, 35, and 56 to be absolutely stellar. Probably just me, but I would go with the X-T1 and the 23 or 35 over a zoom. You could save a little cash by going with the 35, most likely. There seems to be a new round of good Fuji lens sales going on depending on where you are located.

So, I can't give you a direct opinion on 1 versus 10, but I would have a very hard time walking away from my X-T1 at this point.

The X-Pro is still a great camera, but to be frank I would not pay regular retail rices for one now. You just missed the body and two lens combo discount which made sense. Get the Xt10, its a great camera.

I think what I'm trying to decide on is the x-t1 with the 18-55 at 1149€ or the x-t10 with the 16-50 at 799€. So 350€ less for the x-t10 combo but not such a good lens? And very very slightly inferior camera. Worth paying the 350€ extra for the x-t1 with 18-55 lens?

You might be able to pick up an X-E1 with the lens for less than the price difference, and maybe buy the X-T1 with a different lens.

If you sell you Canon gear, keep your Canon flash, you may come back to using it in manual mode, the Fujifilm flashes aren't great.

Apart from that, you will enjoy using the Fujifilm gear and carrying less bulk and weight!

I had a long history with Canon as well before switching entirely to Fuji last year. No regrets whatsoever. I would strongly recommend the 18-55 kit lens. Easily equivalent in IQ and BQ to Canon's EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 but a touch slower on the long end. Arguably one of the nicest kit lenses out there and a real deal at the price. As far as the camera choice goes, I haven't used the X-T10 but one deal killer for me would be the very small buffer as compared to the X-T1. If you plan to do much high speed shooting, you may find the X-T10 wanting in that regard. If not, then most of the other differences aren't all that great and it's a lot of camera for the price.

If it were me, I'd pay the additional cost of the X-T1, but that applies to my own priorities and needs and may not be as well suited to yours. You really have to make that call yourself based on the feature differences between the two cameras.

Thanks for the replies. I can't actually see the need for the x-t1 over the x-t10. I don't need weather sealing, don't shoot that much sports so buffering is not an issue. so maybe the x-t10 is the way to go but it was just tempting with the x-t1 at that price with the 18-55 lens. Is the 18-55 that much better than the much cheaper 16-50? I know it's a stop different but I take a lot of street shots or out in bars and clubs but use the x100s for that.

Have you handled those cameras?

I would like to say, save your money and go with X-T10, but that thing is impossible to handle. It's just too small with no grip. It's an ergonomic nightmare. I hated holding it with two fingers (that's as much as you can fit on that body) and accidentally pushing all the back buttons and rotating the dials. Even the overpriced extra grip makes little difference. That design is a complete failure.

Actually no. That's on my todo list tomorrow. Though I don't find the x100s too small. In fact it's lovely to hold. But maybe it's different when you have something that size with a bigger lens.

I have two fuji X-T10's and could not be happier. I have migrated from Canon and Nikon to the fuji system. I started with X-E1 and then X-E2. The X-T10 in australia sells as a kit with the 16-50 (and 50-230 if you want it) I have used both these lenses and find them excellent value for money.

To the OP: I'd definitely go check out the ergonomics and feel for yourself. One person's "ergonomic nightmare" and "complete failure" is another person's absolute delight. I've read a ton of very positive remarks here about the feel and handling of the X-T10 and found nothing I didn't like about it myself when I took a quick look in my local camera store out of curiosity. So, take strong negative (and positive for that matter) opinions with a large grain of salt and find out for yourself what feels and handles right. You'll find no lack of strong opinions here... that's for sure. Caveat emptor.

Figure out the most used lens you use, prime or zoom. Buy that version with Fuji. Sell you canon gear

Or

Look at the Either the Samsung NX-1 or Sony A7 camera for other options

The Panasonic GH-3 with the 12-35 and 35-100 is also a very nice set up for micro 4/3's

Perhaps it depends on whether you're more influenced by the "value" in the X-T10 vs the top of the line X-T1. For me, leaving Nikon and that optical viewfinder meant getting the best EVF out there from Fuji, and that's in the X-T1. It's wonderful. And I've shot with the 18-55 for over a year. Top notch. If you like to shoot with a standard zoom, it's a bargain. My vote would be this kit, but I hope you can get out and look through that EVF. It's a decision maker.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll try get into the city today and have a play with each. Still think it's a straight choice x-t1 with 18-55 or x-t10 with 16-50 (seems like a good lens too). Hopefully handling them will help make the choice.

i tend to use most of the time my x100s. And if need a bit of flexibility my canon with 15-85 covers most of the range I need. Shame Fuji kit doesn't come with something similar. Would then add a bigger Zion for the odd sporting event and over time replace my canon primes as and when needed.

x-t1 with 18-55 or x-t10 with 16-50 with €350 difference between them.

X-T1 for me, but I would suggest you go to a shop and try them for size.

Well I spent an hour in the photo store today. Tried both the x-t1 with 18-55 and the x-t10 with 16-50 but found the x-t10 too small. I like my x100s. And that's same size. But with lenses on the x-t10 seemed too small. Much preferred the handling of the x-t1 and the bigger EVF. So mind sort of made up. Till someone said get a used x-pro 1 if you like he x100s so much and sell it for not much less that pay now when the new x-pro 2 comes out with a new sensor.

Ah the decisions.

I thought Fuji was also going to offer the XT10 with the 18-55 for $100 more.
