Dusting off the 7D

All the recent activity on the forum encouraged me to get out my trusty 7D. I don't think it had been used in 2 years, possibly more. The battery in it still had enough juice to give me the dreaded FFB for the very first time but after that nonsense (and a fresh battery) it has been acting like the champ it always was.

Darn, but it is a lovely machine. No, it will not outshine the Sony A77M2 but who cares. This camera fits my hand like a glove.

This is from this morning with the Minolta 100mm macro (also a lovely machine).

Not quite ready for a BLT!

Welcome back and thanks for sharing . :-)

Maybe not ready for a BLT , but if you have a load of green ones left at the end of summer , Green tomato chutneys' good !

.

My main cameras now are the a900 and a77ii , but I've always left the Dynax 7d loaded with batteries and a beercan lens on in the spare room in case any wildlife wandered in to the garden .

.

The other reason it's left set up is that , I had heard , that if you took a couple of shots with it every month or so , it helped hold off FFB . Seems that the inactivity makes things worse , rather than regular use .

.

Now it might be that my D7d had had the repair done to it to cure this fault , or it could be doing what I do with it really works . Who knows ?

Now yours is back in action , it's worth giving that a go ....

Any way , touch wood , mine will keep working fine for years to come .

Still a very nice camera to use that give nice results .

With some PP, color replacement and saturation, you could perhaps start picking.

Nice, thanks for the post;

And yes this 7D is quality to last. Love the 100 macro to, wonder how it performs on the a7ii.

Green tomato pie has its charms, too.

I've heard that, too. It couldn't hurt. This was the first time I saw FFB. My camera hasn't had any repairs. I bought it new when they first came out.

OMG... N.O.R.M.A. ( Big smiley face, on my real face )... so nice to see you....I went looking for you a few times to try and see where you went... While the six of us have been pumping this forum up.. we haven had mu8ch success in getting people to join in... but as far as my effort here over the last 2 weeks,, having you come into this forum and post a photo was worth all that effort...... I have been very sick over the last two years and just came back after a 2 year hiatus from everything in my life...

So good to see you.... thanks for sharing..

Bill aka EO

PS and BTW not for the monumental effort, I tell people all the time that I posted a thread in this forum that made history, thanks to you.......

I started the " do you take toilet paper into the field with you " thread..... this forum only allows 180 post in any single thread.,.. but because you posted the last simultaneously with someone else, you pushed that thread to 181 posts... no one ever thought that thread would go this distance.. but it became a side splitting thread... ..

Ive owned my 7D for ten years... one of the first to get one...after waiting 2 years for them to actually release it... I still have the two original batteries I received with the camera, I also have the grip.... the batteries are ten years old and still take a charge and still hold a charge...

I just saw that you can buy a 7D from Adorama for 205 dollars... WOW what an inexpensive way to get into digital... the problem is the 7D does set the bar fairly high in color rendering.... IM still amazed at the photographs it produces from a camera that is ten years old..

Nice to see you, too, Bill, and thanks for the warm welcome. You gave me a push to get out the 7D. I'd forgotten how much fun that camera is. I'm sorry that you have been so sick and hope you are getting better.

Yes, I do remember the TP thread. It really was hysterical, especially if you didn't take yourself seriously! :-)

I remember both dr.jim and Dawun both told me they would not participate in such a pedestrian thread... but about half way through that thread both of those guys fell victim to its hysterical charm.... I just tried to prove that not all photographers in this forum are stuffed shirt photographic purists... the thread was fun... and remembered by many.

ON another note... In about ten minutes I'm going to get my 7D out of my safe.. and start the process of resuscitation, going to put the grip on it,, and charge up two batteries.. and take some photos with the 7D, and bring some 2015 photographs... ( snap shots ) to this forum... you wont find anything artistic, or photographically excellent, that's because I don't know how to do that.. none the less, Ill be having fun..

PS, I do remember pushing you and a few others into a Sony A700, then an A77.

It would be great if you could find the time to stop by,

FYI.... there does not seem to be any real restrictions here... so if you have some shots from a smart phone, or a Nikon, no one here is going to complain... we had one boo bird here.. who tried to spoil the limited fun we had here, but between the six of us .. we got him out of here..

This forum has always been friendly. and without the chest pounding testosterone filled kids..and adolescent grown up found in other forums.. I would rather have ten people with focus on friendly, sharing, non confrontational attitudes and just embrace the interest in photography with out all of the negatives found else ware.

Nice to see you here again.

My 7D has the FFB since 5 years now and is still working fortunately, because I have not a spare KM mount camera except the 600SI film camera.

I agree, a regular use seems to prevent quite well the FFB (nice for THE opportuniny shot) but does not repair the camera :-(

All the best, Michel.

I still have my first 7D, and another still NIB, never used. But I am

getting to the point where I need to sell the other one to fund other

projects. But I will always keep my first one -- amazing color....

Thats the kind of forum I want to be part of. now to find a used 5d/7d... :-P

I got my K10d with lens for $120. 27k clicks on it, i completely agree. They blow the socks off smartphones everyone is using.

I was able to capture this with the 18-55mm AL kit lens. Ive jumped from camera to camera, and i constantly see people saying "oh the colors..." i am not sure if all of them are good, some of them are special, or what... I will say the CCD based cameras at iso 100 do look special to some extent at least compared to CMOS...

Lovely dog .

I still have my Sony a100 , at ISO 100 that has great image quality on colours too . The CCD sensors do give a different look .

I had a Pentax K10d that I gave to my niece as she was getting interested in photography a few years ago .

She is now at university studying it , still using it and getting good results .

Why everyone is brainwashed that it has to be Canon or Nikon I don't know .

Greetings, i do still have my Dynax 7D & 5D also, and i think i'd never sell them...true classics, these wonderful 6 MP APS-C DSLR are...too bad, KoMi was bought off by Sony in 2006...and we all know the end of the Story...
