In 2011 I decided to teach 7 school kids the art of photography. Interviews were held over a period of 2 months where all those interested in being a part of the project applied and had to sell themselves to me. The aim was to find 6 High School learners with the will and desire to learn the creative art of capturing light. I received many applications and decisions were tough going. In the end we decided to settle on 7 of the applicants instead of the original 6.
A camera importer in South Africa generously donated the cameras for the project.

This project has been running for five years the kids range from 14 years to 17 years, this project is done at no charge to the students and at the end of each year we host a exhibition for them.

For the last two years I have kept back the two best students to act as facilitators for the new incoming group.

I am sure that these type of projects happen all over the world and would love to get into contact wither other Professional Photographers doing similar ventures.
