I was walking past the local CEX today and noticed a Panasonic PZ 14-42mm for sale at a very nice price so I snapped it up.

It came with this thing screwed on the front:

It's obviously some sort of adapter and something is supposed to fit (bayonet) on to it but what?

I've searched through images on google but so far I haven't found out - anyone know?

My guess would be reverse mount ring adapter. It allows you to mount the lens reversed, for macro shooting.

Looks like the one that I had for my Nikkor lenses. That sure is a reverse adapter.

If I HAD to guess. . . the male thread attaches to the lens, the other side can take a polarizer and the outer tabs are there to hold a filter holder (rectangular filters cover the polarizer).

I've heard of such things, though usually the part that adapts to the lens is separate (to accommodate different sized lenses).

Right. This is adapter for Panasonic DMW-G[TWFM]C1 converters.

It could well be. I can't find any pictures of the adapter itself but it certainly makes sense that this is what it is for.

Btw - I can't believe the difference in price - $59 for Amazon US one you linked to and £92 on Amazon UK. Shame the US seller doesn't ship to the UK or I'd have bought it.

If you're still unsure, you could call/visit the dealer I guess.....they should know! Yes?

Whatever it is - I hope you can use it! :-D

Yes it looks like the adapter mount. I have the wide adapter permanently screwed on my 14/2.5 prime lens, turns it into a 21mm equievent f/2.5 lens. Really nice! The threads are plastic though. I broke mine :-( So I have it glued on. To remove it I therefore need to unscrew it.
