Hi I'm UK based, just to start with... I need a charger for my D800e as I simply can't find my original one :(

I see on Amazon etc there are dual ones, third party -

Worth it? or worth-less?

Need one PDQ before we go on hols in a fortnight!

(ps it's a very hard to term to search on, so apologies for duplicating many threads...)

Cheers

One's life is not...
There's lots of people out there who are totally satisfied with third party batteries and chargers and pleased that they have saved a bit of money. Best guess is t hat you would probably never know the difference.

Having said that, I'm a worrier sort and would likely just bite the bullet and purchase an OEM version.

D800, D800E, D810, D750, D600, D610, D7100, D7200 all share the same battery, EN-EL15, and the charger is MH-25.

If you are in a hurry and have little time to test and verify a third-party compatible product before going on vacation, I suggest you get a Nikon charger.

You may have luck with your local ads (like Kijiji and Craiglist outside the UK). Someone may decide to sell a redundant charger for cheap.

(I do use non-Nikon batteries and charger. I don't want to get into a yay/nay debate.)

The dual ones are good. I use a Hahnel dual charger. It's excellent and it means I can charge both batteries at the same time which means that the charges are always equalised.

I lost a lot of things but a charger....Probable I will loose my wife earlier. ;-)
you can purchase an original online from The Netherlands, I know by experience that it takes just a couple of days to Britland. :-)

I've used a 3rd party charger after misplacing the original one (which I ultimately found). The brand was Pearstone and B&H used to sell it. It looks like the make they sell nowadays is Watson.

It works just like the original. One nifty feature is that it can be used to charge a USB device.

Thanks, I'll see what I can get. I trust the Hahnel name and Watson does sound good. the latter, I found on Amazon, but not UK amazon.

Great advise all, apart from Pluton LOL

ps... I know I can get a Nikon charger... Next Day... from largely anywhere

so the question was probably more about how the 3rd party ones seem, which ones folks find OK by them....

One's life is not measured by the two dates upon your tombstone, but how you lived the dash in between them

This won't help but after some tedious and protracted searches my wife suggested getting some bright red electrical insulating tape and creating long red streamers attached to the charger (stick the tape back to back with a 2" end with the sticky still exposed stuck to the charger. The weight and cost is tiny. I must get round to putting it on some more black things that live in my black travel bag...

For an important trip I'd buy a Nikon charger.

I see that you've already found a small, inexpensive dual charger. For anyone else that might prefer the larger and more expensive Pearstone/Watson version, a lot of money can be saved if you buy the "wrong" charger. That is, one of the chargers that is sold for a different battery that you don't own. The reason being that there are a very small number of remaining duo and single chargers that cost much less. So you get a charger or two and then whatever charging plates that you'll need for your batteries.

B&H's Watson and Pearstone compact chargers generally cost $20 but there are three Pearstone compact chargers that cost $1.99.

B&H's Duo chargers cost about $80 but there's one that costs only $49. A couple of months ago there were a few that sold for $39 but now they're gone.

So if you want an EN-EL15 charger, you'd buy either one of the $1.99 compact chargers and/or the $49 duo charger and then as many $1.99 EN-EL15 charging plates as you's need. So instead of getting an $80 EN-EL15 charger, you could get the equivalent for $53 ($49 + $1.99 + $1.99), and instead of paying $20 for a compact charger, you could get the equivalent for $4 ($1.99 + $1.99).

Then if you wanted another charger for a different camera (for example, for Nikon's Coolpix A or the J1) you'd only need to buy one or two charging plates for the EN-EL20 battery.

This is what they look like :

$49 Duo Charger for the GoPro Hero 3 battery.
