Hello Everyone, new on the Forum and Need some buying advice!

I am searching for a new camera coming from a pocket Lumix TZ8, and I wanted something where I could Play a bit more.

I will just post the cameras I searched around and the Prices at which i can get them:

Nikon L830/840 : 200€

Panasonic Lumix FZ70/FZ72: 250 €

Panasonic Lumix FZ200: 320 €

Sony a5000: 300 €

The huge zoom ranges (30+) are not important to me, I am aware that the FZ200 is most likely the best of the bunch, my question is, is it worth it or will another one suffice for a novice?

Also if you know something else more or less on this Price range, i am of course open to propositions!

Thank you in advance,

I see that you have a travel zoom, so why not the latest in this series, the Panasonic TZ70 (ZS50)?

But the FZ200 is also a good choice. Now that the FZ300 is announced, perhaps the price could drop a little. (It's better than the L830/L840 and FZ70/FZ72).

Also the A5000 could do, will be better in low light , but the Sony kitlens is not that good and a better one will cost you more. (The FZ200 has more features and is more versatile)

But as a start it might be good enough, later on you may want another lens.

Thank you for the reply, I forgot to mention that I don't have a travel zoom anymore because it drowned on my last vacation :-P so basically I am searching for a new camera for travel and everything else.

My only concern here is Image Quality because of the sensor sizes, is the FZ200 enough? are there any other choices on this Price range?

Thanks again

Sorry about the TZ8. I always use handstrap, so if the is camera falls it keeps hanging on my hand.

Thousands are satisfied with the FZ200 or TZ70. It's not DSLR quality but in daylight it's good enough. Viewed on a screen or small prints, most people won't see the difference between one of these cameras and a DSLR.

If you don't want the zoom, you could look at the Sony RX100. This is the best compact, in it's price range.

Heh I also always do, but in this case it was our kayak that turned and the drybag where the camera and phone were wasn't that "dry" :P

Well I will see the Prices I can get from both. Thank you!

Perhaps next time you are on a kayak, you could use a rugged camera the withstands water. :-)
