Hmm...

States that it has a "6 control camera shake correction system Dual IS" which I'm presuming means OIS and IBIS working together. Does the "6 control" IS mean 6 axis? Is that even possible?

Regardless, it certainly welcome to have such options. Hope it works in video as well, specially 4K.

Talk about marketing tricks, sheesh.

As an ancient aviator, I haven't yet figured out how they've discovered 5 axis, much less 6 axis IBIS. LOL! We only had three in aviation.

but no more than Oly I suppose.

Still, if it works as well as the Oly implementation, or better, I won't complain.

The Oly 5-axis stabilizes around 3 rotation axes and 2 translation directions. I suppose a 6-axis would stabilize around all 3 rotation axes and 3 translations.

I would be interested in trading my EM5II for this camera for the video. But that would depend on if it had good IBIS so I could use my vast array of Oly lenses.

The question for me is, if I put a non OIS lens (Olympus) on this combo OIS/IBIS body what is the result? Or........maybe it only works to its full potential with some new Panasonic lenses, yet to be announced.

Personally, I prefer the DSLR camera design, like the G7. I also prefer the EVF look of lens stabilization. However, after hearing about all the stabilization in the GX8, I will probably hold off on purchasing a G7 awhile. If the G8 will stabilize 4K, I'll almost certainly go for it.

Up/Down

Left/Right

Pitch

Yaw

Roll

You could also include Forward/Backward to have 6 if it did that too.

So if the 6th motion is front/back (z-axis) translation, that means it must adjust focus. Using the DFD algorithm? Pretty cool trick!

I would guess in this case they're not talking about the sensor moving in six different ways but rather the camera having a total of six different ways to move - e.g. 3 for the sensor and 3 in the lens or something like that.

6 axis would mean all 5 + the Z axis of the sensor, so the sensor would be forward and backward the photographer.

And that is very very unlikely because we are talking about even smaller distances than Olympus HR mode half-pixel accuracy. So your subject would very very easily be out of focus in critical moment. But we already have so deep acceptable depth of field that Z axis isn't required to be stabilized, but the sensor shifting even fraction of the millimeter would be very dramatic change to depth of field placement.

But the IS lens can't move in 3 ways. Only on X and Y planes. You can rotate the lens as much you want but it doesn't help at all.

If they would want to add Pitch and Yaw to IS lens correction, it would then be 4-axis.

But we really see what they mean... after all 6 is more than 5 and so on "better". ;)
