Good morning to everyone wherever you are in the world...
  • Please reply to THIS message when posting your own pictures.
  • Give your reply a title.
  • Keep it polite.
  • First thread kicks off Saturday morning (UK time).
  • Newbies encouraged, any standard.
  • Photographs do not have to have been taken this week.
  • Images are often more impressive when viewed large.
  • Apologies if I don't reply to everyone. This thread is becoming more and more popular and therefore more time-consuming. So…
  • PLEASE TRY TO COMMENT ON SOME OTHER PEOPLE’S WORK. That includes YOU newbies…it helps to take the strain off of me a little.
***PLEASE NOTE***

We will start the next part of this thread before this one is full. At around 110/150 posts. This does not mean the current thread is closed, but please don't post any new PHOTOGRAPHS to it.
  • Please continue to post COMMENTS and REPLIES to any thread but when a newer one has been launched, post all new photographs to that.
  • It’s good if you’ve posted a picture in an earlier thread that there's still room for you to receive a comment on it later in the week.
  • It also prevents tail-enders in earlier threads getting no comments at all because the thread they posted to is full.

For €60 I became the proud owner of a Samyang 500mm F8 preset lens, complete with dedicated 2 x converter to give a 1000mm and 2000mm 35mm equivalent lens on my EM5.

So I took it down to my photo gym to put it through its paces and to see what “artistic” possibilities this lens might give me. ( I always like to test gear in real life situations).

Below are some pictures of the Mediapadana Station in Reggio Emilia Italy, designed by Calatrava rendered almost abstract with this lens.

With my EM5 it suffers from severe chromatic aberrations or it might be the purple blob syndrome , so I will try it out on a Lumix body.

From a first outing with this lens, I think it will give me some interesting perspective crushing possibilities for some interesting pictures even if the optical quality is what one expects from such a cheap lens.

The first two I think have potential. The last three I'm not sure about but am posting here to find out if I might be wrong. These include some of the first photos I've processed from Capitol Reef National Park where I went after the Rocky Mountains.

I like the third one. The fourth is pretty good, as well.

The first - there does not seem to be enough DoF? And in the upper middle region some clouds have two radically different textures. Not too sure if it's really like that in situ. If so that's a good unusual record of natural history.

The second - the way the light paints the landscape and the full capture of this by the photograph is just marvellous!

I like the composition of the third. Lighting is a bit bland but that justifies radical PP attempts, if you are so inclined.

As to the bridge, maybe if you went close to it and tried various angles with a WA? Just speculating as I am not good with WA's.

When you give these numbers, are you including the first camera/lens portrait?

I personally found some of the shots mesmerising when scrolling. Superb vision seeing/predicting these framings with the naked eye.

When you view photos at full size there is a number in the lower left corner 3 of 9 etc.

I looked again and I'm not sure what you are seeing so I don't know if it is natural or not.

This is cropped from a screen shot when viewing it at original size, inside Chrome on a Mac:

The darker part has two textures, one with obvious multi-colour grain the other one not.

Yikes! Thanks for pointing that out. I had to look quite a bit to find it even after you gave me this very helpful screen shot but I found it. I did do some color enhancing in Lightroom that may have caused this. I'll have to look into it.

I like the first one quite a bit. The last one is an interesting artistic expression. The other two don't work for me.

As you say, you won't get the sharpest shots, but it has possibilities for shots of a more abstract nature or where soft focus is wanted.

The biggest problem I see is carrying that around without knocking into someone or something.

It will definitely draw attention. :-)

I like all of these. They look better composed and more interesting than the previous shots from your trip.

I do think the clouds are too dark in the second shot with a wide view of the lake.

Michael

I don't know if they're ugly, but the first 3 don't grab my attention. I do like the color in the last. Is that a posterized image?

I was mostly coming up empty in Central Park until I saw this male northern cardinal. It has a meal in his mouth.

Here's the same cardinal on a different branch. He could have been heading back to a nest to feed his mate or some chicks.

Hi guys, first ever post on one of these "this week" topics. Spent a night in the lake district just over a week ago with a brand new Oly cam, still getting to grips with it and post processing!

Loving some of the images posted here, the nature and macro ones are my personal favourites!

Anyways here goes, a view from one of the Lake Districts many mountains!
