Ok so I am out shooting in raw mode and
my exposure is come out dark is there an advantage
to fixing this because I am shooting in raw?

can anyone please explain the workflow for raw format?

thanks

If you have shot in RAW when you pull the image into EX converter you have the opportunity to change the Exposure Value down one full EV or up two full EVs in either one-third or one-sixth increments. You'll get a preview and a histogram which will help you.

What is EX converter?

I don't know where (what country) you purchased your S2. In the US, it comes with certain software. Outside the US, there is an additional purchase of HyperUtility Software.

Even without the HyperUtility Software package, you should have had a Fuji FinePix Viewer software to install on your computer. It lets you view the RAW images before conversion to TIFF, JPEG etc. Under the Tools menu on the top bar, you should see both EX Converter and LX Converter. If you see only LX converter, you do not have the software you need to make maximum use of your images. I don't use LX Converter (and I'm not at my photo computer at the moment) so I can't tell you what it will or won't do but it is more limited in function than EX Converter.

If you have EX Converter under Tools in FinePix Viewer, then click on it. It will give you choices of the type of file to which you want to convert your images. I choose 16-bit Adobe1998 TIFF. Click OK and you will get a screen which will preview the image and enable you to see the image with the camera settings or change all of the camera settings, plus set a custom tone curve, a custom white balance temperature, custom color in the conversion process. It will also allow you the three EV range of exposure values I described earlier.

If you don't have EX Converter, I suggest purchasing the HyperUtility Software. It also contains picture taking software that allows you to tether the camera directly to the computer so that the images you take go directly to your hard disk rather than to the memory cards in the camera.

Hope this helps

What is EX converter?
It's the one that's worth having. The LE converter is all Fuji provides for free except in the USA-market package . LE is essentially worthless since it won't let you modify any conversion settings - that's the main point of shooting raw. EX lets you modify white balance, tone, color saturation, sharpening, and you can shift exposure (now in 1/6 stop increments with the updated EX application).

You can use other converters besides the Fuji EX converter, but none produce as good an image. The other programs include Qimage, Bibble, SharpRaw, Adobe Camera Raw plugin, Vuescan, and maybe more soon.

EX is slow, expecially for the new zoom feature and the interface is poorly implemented, but the conversion files have the highest quality. Fuji apparently hasn't been willing to share file structure details and this is one reason other application (especially Adobe's) don't work as well.
