Hi Donald
I was thinking about buying the pentax 550 when I saw this C-750.

One thing that made me decide for the pentax was the small size, big zoom and very long battery life. Now when I look at your pictures I see no noise and very nice colours. The C-750 has even a larger zoom than the pentax (5x optical). Now my questions are:

What battery do you use? Lifetime (how many pictures shot whith the screen on)? How does the flash in dark situations?

i tried a minolta once and eventhough I could see nothing on the screen when I took the picture, the result was great and lots of details were visible. ..
How big is the camera, compared to your hand?
What about red eyes problems?

Thanks for your help
Suzanne

hi Stinson,

I have Photshop 7 but it's so massive, I scarcely know where to begin with it. I'm curious to know what action you have in mind? let me know here or you can email me. thanks
Donald do you use Photoshop? If so I want to send you an action to
use on these. I have a 750 on order, partly due to the shots you
posted. Thanks

I'm just recently back from a holiday in western Canada, Here are
some panoramas taken on my trip. I was hoping for a couple of sunny
days in the mountains but I guess you have to work with what you
get, we still had a great time. I took over a 1000 shots, the C-750
is terrific!

Excellent !

You did a very good job, Donald. Your panoramas are amazing, colors are natural and bright. Very different from old continent landscapes, and very pleasant :-)
Well, should the Oly C-750 UZ be an excellent substitute to C-2100 UZ ?

Completely jealous.

I thought I recognised some of these places. I had a great trip here 2/3 years ago. Wonderful place, and your photos bring back memories.

What a drive Banff to Jasper is eh?

When you round the pass and see the Columbia Icefield right in front of you - fantastic eh? Did you go up it?

your Lake Louise pix reminded me of some great ski trips - but we never got up there in the summer.

I enjoyed your gallery - thanks.

thanks Bob, I had a great time getting these shots, i just wish we had more time in the mountains. After 5 years in New Jersey, the freshness of the clean mountain air.... well, I just wish I could have brought some home with me!

I'm convinced that the C-750 is much less noisy overall than the C-730. It also seems to hold the noise down through a greater depth of field. I shoot at ISO 50 as much as possible, this has to make a big difference too.
Being able to manually select ISO 50 is what convinced me to upgrade.

having a proper camera strap is an added bonus too, I'm just very happy with the C-750 overall.
Hi, Don! I think you did a wonderful job on these shots, as they
are most impresive. Is it just my perception, or does the 750
deliver shots with much less noise than the 730?

Just great donald, i only hope that one day i can get pics like that.

They are great shots. I'm about to get a C-750 or a C-5050. My only reservation with the 750 is the small size of the LCD screen. Can you comment on that?

Wow, very nice shots!! I have a question! What focal length do you use for these shots? Are you zoomed all the way out, or part way in? Or did you find you can do either and still get good results?

Thanks!

Scott

about the focal length.
It is my impression that you only used the full zoom in one panorama:
the "parker_ridge"... it is quite fuzzy.

how much zoom did you use for the rest of the panoramas?

You didn't use tripod, did you? some sections are moved.

There is very low noise, and the appearance is very smooth and pleasant.
The textures are not very detailed, but we must consider that it was cloudy

Thanks for posting them. These are the biggest panos I have ever seen.
wooooooooooohoooooooooo
Thanks!

For example, the louise_0:
how many shots did you use for this one?

Hi Donald,

Congrats on some magnificent looking photos. I purchased my 750 on Monday, and have not been able to use it during day (work all the time). Tell me did u just use the camera on it's own, or do you have attachements (extra lenses ) etc? I am interested to know what manual settings you used. I have many other questions, but it seems other people have asked.

I look forward to seeing more of your photos.

Thanks,
Jase

Hi Donald,

In your photo http://www.pbase.com/image/18033233 , what attachments
are on the camera.

I am going to ask a silly question. Is the len housing suppose to
move in and out when zooming, or just the internal lens? (please be
gentle)
The lens tubes are fixed, so the filters or teleconvertens stay fixed when the lens moves. Useful filters are
-UV just for protection - particularly in hostile environments.

-A polariser. Either circular or linear is fine. Be careful with polarisers on panoramas though, as it can make matching harder
-An ND linear grad filter helps pull in the dynamic range of some photos.
-A TCON17 will give you more zoom reach.
  • A wide-angle lens would make panoramas easier

LOL, good question! I'm not at all consistent enough, I generally zoom in a little bit, and for panoramas I usually hold the camera in portrait rather than landscape. I've done some panoramas with as many as 12 frames, but usually shoot around 8. For my western trip, I was so rushed, we only had three days in the rockies and I had so many places I wanted to show my wife. After living out in Calgary for 21 years, I had a long list of spots I wanted to show her!

With the C-750, the full frame is big enough that I shot some of the panos in landscape. Portrait is better in my view because it gives you some leeway to crop after building the panorama.

I also stick strictly to using a program called Panorama Factory, no need to set the camera in panorama mode. As long as the frames are identical in size and reasonably overlapped, Panorama Factory can stitch them together. I've even shot a couple of vertical ones, I'll post them soon.
Thanks!

Scott
