Hello,

I'm reading some complains regarding slow AF in x100T and a potential FW update from Fuji.

Is this something considered by Fuji? Or just some rumors/wishes from the users?

Thanks

Regards

Fuji has confirmed that the XE2 will get an update in five months, and it was said int he context of the XT1 getting the new AF system. While nothing has been said about the X100T, being that it is one of their flagship cameras, it doesn't make sense for Fuji not to give it their new AF.

So I predict that the X100T will get the update when the XE2 gets the update.

The current AF is fast enough for most types of photography, it just fails with fast tracking ie. sports or bird in flight type stuff. It is certainly fast enough if you consider your shots a little and don't 'spray and pray'.

Depending on where you live, you could just rent one to see for yourself.

The central 9 points (the phase ones) are very very fast. Very little complaint here. Maybe not as fast as my 70D, but at least as fast , or faster than my 6D. The other points (the CD only ones) are a different story - they are quick in good light, but pretty bad in low light. I try to stick to the central cluster because of that.

Greerings,

So, have you downloaded the most recent FW update? Improves AF among other things.

I have both X-T1 (FW4.0) and XF 18 and when I shoot with both side by side I can confidently say that the X100T is noticeably slower which imo is a bad news as XF18 is considered to be one of the slower lens already....

I've only had my X100T for a couple of weeks (a couple of very bad weeks for photography due to pending deadlines), but I certainly haven't noticed any particular problems with AF speed. Of course, I have no interest in shooting action with this camera, and I'm a rather placid, slow paced photographer who uses center focus, so I'm not likely to be pushing its capabilities in this area anyway.

I don't seem to have any problems with AF on my X100T either. But then I didn't really purchase it for subjects that move very fast. Landscapes and most buildings don't usually move fast enough to cause me any troubles. Wildlife is out of consideration with a 35mm (eq) focal length, and most of the people that I would tend to photograph aren't moving very fast either, since my children have grown up. Children might be a problem area, can't really comment on that.
