I hope it will be 'high end' in the same size as A6000/Nex-7 and will bring features that its competitors already have - GX-7, EM-1, X-T1 - and some new to compete with coming X-Pro2, GX-8, EM-2, X-T2. My wish list:

1). AF sensitivity down to -3EV

2). Better DR with 7stops for 6400iso

3). Clean 6400iso

4). Bigger EVF

5). Weather sealing

6). Front and back dial

7). Separated AF-L and AE-L buttons

8). 4 Fn buttons

9). 3 Custom modes

10). Sillent mode

I do not need IBIS, bring rather Sony-Zeiss 16/2 prime because Sony 16/2.8 is horrible lens and Sony should be shamed for taking money for it.

24MP is fine.. Use Back Lighting to get the ISO UP
*2.3Mpix Viefinder T* Coating
What ever the A77m2 has if they can get it in the space and not warp the optics so bad it has a very narrow viewing angle and eye relief distance.
*1.2Mpix LCD

*1/8000 Shutter Speed

Probably not. GPS creates issues with different markets. Would be nice to implement an add on some way, maybe NFC / Bluetooth
*More Custom button

IBIS that is what I would want so all the adapted glass is stabilized..

Wouldn't some more movement in the LCD..

I too the A6000 and A77m2 with me. There are some shots I took where the LCD on the A77m2 helped.

More battery life in some way.

The following are only my opinions, based on my own experiences with the A6000.
This is What I’m expecting From successor A6000 (a6100 or Else …)

I find that my lenses already have a hard time outresolving the sensor. I think that 24 is more than enough.
*2.3Mpix Viefinder T* Coating
I never use the viewfinder, but I would sure appreciate some efforts to reduce the glare of the view screen.
*1.2Mpix LCD
I find the LCD's resolution not an issue, but I want it brighter.
*1/8000 Shutter Speed

*Bulb mode Without remote

*Built In GPS not NFC
+1
*More Custom button
Not too many more though, it becomes too complicated. But more customization. For instance, the A3000 when viewing pictures on the LCD, I can press the middle cursor button to zoom in. On the A6000 I have to press this other button further up. So, customization specifically for preview / picture viewing mode. That way the middle button can be something other than zoom when live viewing.

Ok, definitely I want that AWB fixed. Way too often the white balance is off. The white balance is much worse than my old A57 for instance. Also, often picture comes out too blue, too cold, and other times too green. Too often indoor I'm much better off using custom white balance and then fixing it on something white, and then nudging it a bit to make it more natural. Too much work. Of course no camera is going to get this perfectly automatically, but it's just that the A6000 is worse than average in this respect.

Second, I like how I can select no-noise-reduction even for saving jpg files. But that introduced intensified pixels, like color sprinkles. I want more control over the balance of noise reduction and jpg compression. Or something where I can opt for as little damaging noise control as possible and still use jpg. I don't have time for raw processing. I'd like to, but the software is slow and clumsy (Linux / Android guy only here).

Video auto zooming for power zoom lenses. I love my 18-105 lens which is awesome for video. I'd love to automatically zoom when the subject is moving towards or away. Especially when tracking a child across a path. If the camera knows the distance, it ought to be able to calculate how to adjust the zoom. Perhaps there's an app for that?

More control over how I'm going to get content from the camera to my harddrive. Don't assume I have a windows PC. Give me a Java based SDK where I can write some code to do things my way, that can run on either a PC or an Android device. Keep the protocol simple, so that other people can write libraries and sdks also, like for the Apple products.

Lastly, I want video to be sharper. I know the camera can do better. It's much better than my old A57, but it's still not really 1080 crisp like. It is *STILL* more like upscaled 720....

As for 4K. That's nice and all, but it might be more than most people would need. Myself, I'm mainly interested in putting on a show on the big TV in the living room. A 4K tv there makes no sense according to all the talk on the internet about this, because in order to actually see more than 1080 even on a big 70 inch tv, you'd have to still be too close up to the tv in order to be able to tell the difference. When everyone is sitting on the couch, 4k won't show anything better than 1080. So, although it's nice to have, and great fro watching myself very up close, like an a future 4k computer monitor - my main goal won't benefit. I take a lot of home video and storage might become a problem (although it's awesome how video compression algorithm has yet again improved (265 vs 264 for instance).

I'm a little late catching up here. This backlighting. I'm guessing that is a way to reduce noise at very low light levels. A way to make each photo cell start at a level higher than zero. Is that it?

I just bought a a6000 a "companion" to my trusty D700.

So far I am really impressed: AF speed and assist are mind blowing, ergonomics are quite right.

But there are a few thing I miss and most of them are not hardware related, so they could be actual added via firmware: (and please tell me, if the current model has one of these features already ;-) )

* silent shutter!

* Minimum shutter speed in Auto ISO

* 720p video modes

* compressed RAW files

* Different image size options for RAW (6,12,16,20,24 mp)

* adjustable cont. shooting speed

* Either more than three memory settings or make the directly selectable

* hot shoe cover

* GPS

* Better Battery life (>500 shots at least)

* Vertical hand Grip

* Wireless flash commander

* Dual SD card slot

* mic and headphone jack

* fully articulated touch screen

* larger EVF

* custom file name prefix

* there could be another custom button between shutter release and mode dial

* lens changing mode: the sensor is protected/hidden when changing the lens

* weather sealing

* Audio level meter for video

* should come with an external charger

* and of course the usual: less noise, higher DR, better IQ

* BONUS: affordable lens adaptor for Nikon with full AF and metering support

Not that I would buy the successor, but I think here is quite a list Sony can think about.

I want the audio input jack!!!! Only realized it wasn't there after I bought it - wouldn't have otherwise.

of a 28mp sensor when most of the lens available from sony for apsc can't even resolve 14mp. 24mp is fine.

If anything make a higher end compact version size of a5100 with ibis, view finder, hard dials and mag body. Better, more ccompact lens that aren't a rip off as well.

At the moment, the electrical traces within a CMOS is in front of the receptor. This causes diffraction as the light passes through. However, this is the most common and cheapest method. BSI is a more complex and costly process (probably has a lower yield as well) where the electrical traces are behind the receptor. This allows for greater, well, greater everything. You can have a BSI sensor with less noise and more sensitivity than a comparable CMOS.

I attached an image below from SOITEC which shows the structure of a CMOS vs BSI. After that is another comparing an image from the two. Somewhere, I have another graph and it shows how with a BSI vs CMOS, you can have higher resolution, greater dynamic range, and a lower signal-to-noise ratio.

It's just awesome all around.

And, a real world example of how the two would compare:

I agree with you on 4K.

I'm very satisfied with my A6000, and won't upgrade until IBIS comes to Sony's APS-C model.

Consider that even the focus upgrades in the Mark II versions of the A7 and A7R still don't match the focusing of the A6000. I have a good collection of Nikon manual and AF lenses that I'm looking forward to using again once IBIS comes to the Sony APS-C model.

However, I am dissatisfied with the viewfinder of the A6000. It's fine for good light, but goes all grainy and splotchy in very low light, particularly when trying to manual focus.

While I do get excited reading of the new features of the A7RII, the deal breaker is the larger size of the lenses. I want a fairly compact system with the benefits of APS-C.

I think within 3-4 years, when my A6000 is getting long in the tooth, those new technologies we see in the A7RII should have worked their way into the APS-C models.

From all these comments I get this

1. 24Mpix is Ok

2. IBIS

3. Back illuminated sensor (I’m very interested in this one but I don’t think if it’s possible in this price range)

4. Faster shutter speed with bulb

5. Larger EVF with better night view

6. Better ISO, DR and AF sensitivity

7. Weather sealing

8. 4K recording

9. Audio input jack

10. GPS, implement an add via NFC/Bluetooth

11. Better AWB

12. Audio level meter for video (they can bring by firmware)

13. More Custom button

14. Under 1K $ Price :-)

This video is very interesting about IBIS, between GH4 (Does not have IBIS) And Olympus E-M5 MarkII (with IBIS)

But, it's the marketing race where everyone is concerned about some quantitative value such as MP's. I wish they would focus on other stuff and like use a 14-16MP BSI sensor. And for those who want it, BSI and/or IBIS.

However, I think, that a lot of the sensor technology is coupled to some back-end processing. I have a NEX-3 and I took it apart and the sensor is more than a sensor. There's some immediate processing involved before the data is piped off. It might be cheaper to keep going the current route for them especially if people buy more cameras.

Until there is some amazing marketing blitz about BSI, which will happen when the manufacturing and yield if favorable, we'll see it.

More of a "request/wish list" than an expectation list
  • On the mode dial, make MR, SCN, i, and i+ slots programmable as custom modes (or just turn them into customizable mode slots 1, 2, and 3 instead)
  • Make it so custom button settings can be set and saved within respective custom modes or MR slots (to for example quickly switch between a back focus configuration, an eye focus, lock on AF, or some other configuration where you utilize the custom buttons - with just the twist of a knob)
  • Eye focus tracking!
  • Improved low light focusing
  • Additional custom button or two
  • Raised bump or texture on Fn and custom buttons so you can find them easily without looking
  • Audio in/out(monitor)
  • Even faster wake/on time (already sooooo much better since 2.0 though!)
  • Shorter sleep time option in settings.
  • Immediate "sleep" option assigned or assignable to custom buttons (maybe requiring combination of two buttons be pressed?) - Extend those batteries when you need to!
  • Larger back dial, smoother moving and larger top right dial.
  • Option to turn off back dial when in A or S (so you don't mess up your settings while the camera rests against you)
  • Touch screen focusing (touch screen menu navigation far less important)
  • Built in wireless flash control
  • 4k video
.....and maybe a few E-mount f/1.4 primes (priced lower than EF?) to go with it? An E or EF f/2.8 zoom option too maybe? : P
