Well, Sigma did infringe on Nikon's VR patents. There's bad blood between the two.
Nikon probably intentionally made changes to screw with Sigma.
Most Tamrons won't work on the Nikon 1 cameras and Tamron won't offer any help. At least Sigma tries to help. They offer firmware upgrades whenever possible and even do it at no charge in some cases.... Why bother with Sigma. Tamrons need no firmware updates.
If you did not admit it no one would know. :-DHey! I resemble that!Sigma, Tokina and Tamron always infringe on something. Sigma been taking away sales from Canon, Nikon, Minolta (Sony) for over 30 years as the leading third party lens manufacturer. Not to mention that some stupid people buy Sigma cameras too.Well, Sigma did infringe on Nikon's VR patents. There's bad blood between the two.

My 120-300mm pre-Sport focuses in Live View on my D800E and my D7200 post a Sigma service center firmware update, and my 35mm Art works on all the Nikon bodies I own with no need for a firmware fix. It would be nice if Sigma provided a list of Nikon bodies, compatibility with their lenses as originally released, and their policy on firmware fixes for pre-dock lenses. All my Sigma lenses that came out before D810 do not focus in LV. The only two lenses that focus in LV are 120-300mm Sport and 35mm F1.4I haven't tried it in live view. It's not something I would normally do for quick moving subjects. I used the D7200 with a Sigma 150-600 S to shoot surfers on very large waves at the Wedge in Newport Beach last Monday and it worked great even in really dim, flat lighting. Again, I don't know about live view.Does it focus in live view?

Nice, can you post a few of the Wedge photos?I haven't tried it in live view. It's not something I would normally do for quick moving subjects. I sold both My Sigma long zooms when I bought the D810, (guess I got Lucky) But now my Tamron seems to be broken, I'll need to dig out My 15 year old Nikon 300mm 2.8 and 14tc.All my Sigma lenses that came out before D810 do not focus in LV. Probably All models sold before D810 came out. Even lenses like newest 180mm F2.8 macro needs one unless you bought it new recently. As far as I know all lenses bought after D810 are already re-chipped or firmware updated. But better call Sigma to find out.... So, non-crinkled lenses that were designed, but not announced before 2010, might require a firmware upgrade or might need a rechipping.

As long as you don't say that you bought SD1 for $10K you will be OK :-DI'll tell it to the worldIf you did not admit it no one would know. :-DHey! That 10k Sigma was a tactical marketing decision. Until that announcement virtually no one knew Sigma even made cameras. Now it is just virtually no one cares they make cameras. As long as you don't say that you bought SD1 for $10K you will be OK :-D
Everyone knew they made cameras before SD1 and after that fiasco with pricing but no one cared back then and now for a simple few facts that if you buy in to their system no matter how good it is they don't develop new technology as often like Canon, Nikon and Sony and you are stuck with Sigma lenses only. And they still don't have FF camera which majority of people crave................

Yes, I have to send a bunch of lenses including 85mm to them. But the only problem is the LV not working but everything else works just fine. And I hardly use LV. But I should do it anyway if I want to sell these lenses in the future. As frustrating as the lens forward compatibilty issue can be, I have found Sigma service to be very efficient. My 85 non dock lens is now very nice on the D810.

I can confirm that where my 8-16 has no problem with Live view AF on my D7200, it doesn't AF in live view on the D7200. It does detect focus and if you manually turn the focus ring to focus, it will take a picture in live view in focus priority. So if you're willing to manually focus the camera will confirm it is in focus for you. Anyway it's a workaround. Your only other options are to switch the lens to MF or shoot through the viewfinder. Definitely disappointing but at least the lens is somewhat usable.Sigma is going to have some headaches on it's hands with the D7200. Nikon probably intentionally made changes to screw with Sigma.
Sigma 8-16mm DG - Live view won’t focus - Live view (2-5 shots, locks flash)
