Are we going to see a $1200 a7000 body?

Whatever comes out as an upgrade to the current a6000, are we going to see a double or more in price?

I wouldn't mind having a much improved sensor that handles noise in low light better, much better AF at night (football at night), and improved battery life. I don't really yern for IBIS but I would take it as long as size (didn't grow) and battery life are not decreased.

I think you've got to ask yourself just HOW far you could expect a camera like the A6000 to be uprated or upgraded ...WITHIN its size... Most of the features you speak of.. although very commendable for lots of folk. really are to an extent the kind of things that usually you would moreso tend to think of when on a much ..or moreso..bigger camera body. If the A6000+ is given many of these added features it's likely that some degree of size increase would have to take place (look at a number of other cameras in other makers ranges that have had increased features but at some change in size..
Anyway when you get a lot of those features it often is the thing you go for by buying such as in this case an A7 type..that's my thinking anyway - you can't have it both ways..the A6000 as it is, is a remarkable camera.. if that is not enough..go for the A7..why not ??

I was thinking of $1200 for the new kit with an improved kit lens, whatever sensor improvements they can make and IBIS.

I for one won't be surprised if a new 'a7000' body alone is over $1,000. I believe the original NEX7 was priced at that on release -- and retail hates to go backwards (or downwards). If we assume the a6000 will continue, the presumed a7000 will be priced higher -- and the A7 range indicates how wide a price spread Sony is willing to entertain ...

I am not convinced by the 'Sony expects us to move to FF' argument -- Sony knows that some shooters are content with APS-C, or already own an inventory of crop lenses, or simply don't want to spend FF prices ... A high end a7000 priced at $1,000 body-only is what I'm assuming (and ear-marking funds for).

Cheers,
GB

I'm totally happy with APS-C and have no interest in FF. I'd like to see an a6000 follow-on with sensor improvements and a better EVF. IBIS might be nice, but it's not essential for me.

Unfortunately, Sony apparently now believes that everyone in the world needs 4K video, so the product has been held up while that gets crammed in to the design.

They would have to include some really amazing features, to ask for that kind of money.

I saw several a6000's on college sidelines last year and high school fields. One was a former SI photographer. The noise in low light is not the greatest compared to a pro level DSLR and I am going to assume Sony is going to drop an upgraded sensor that will improve current low noise performance. I would also think Sony would want to improve AF as well and if the a7r ii can do it, we know the a7000 can do it.

I just don't want the body to increase in size at all so I'm fine without IBIS.

I hope not. But considering how much Sony increased the price of the new RX10 II vs. the RX10 with the changes being mainly a new sensor (which may be quite an improvement when we see some test data) and 4K video, the same changes in the A6000 could take it to $1000 or so.

Room for improvement, without doubt. But considering the $1000 price tag of the a7, I feel that $750-850 would be more appropriate for an a7000. Unless of course it has the features of the a7rII, a leval gauge and the size of the nex-5r, then I would happily pay $1200 :) I guess it depends how much they put in the packet!

I would like to see the a7000 as an improvement of the Samsung Nx1 or at least the NX500. In order to do that they will need an upgraded sensor, 4k, Great autofocus and a BSI sensor. Iit shouldn't sell for more than around $1200. I would have bought the NX1 except for a few issues.

1) the NX1 is too big. I would take something as large as the alphas but not bigger.

2) I would like the option of upgrading to full frame in the future and I can't do that with the Samsung.

3) I want a better lens selection than the NX line.

I hope Sony can deliver. I'd buy it tomorrow if they can match the NX1.

I think they have to keep the APSC bodies under $750.

Sony R1, NEX C3 & 5R + Zeiss 24mm, 16-70, & FE 70-200 Lenses, Nikon V1 + 10-30 & 30-110 lenses.
Nikon has an over $2,000 crop body, Canon offers an APS-C body only model at $1,500 retail -- I suspect Sony would like to operate in that market niche as well.
What Nikon over $2000 crop body do you mean. The only one I know of is around $1200, the D7200

In having a pro-Sumer model for APS-C. However, they risk hurting a7 sales.

I had another thread about my a 6000 and the next model. I really don't know what they could put in at this point other than a BSI Sensor and maybe IBIS. Really though, I'd like to see BSI and an updated 2.36 MP or better EVF with weather sealing.

Nope - I want the a6100 to come with BSI sensor, IBIS and new and improved kit zoom lens for ~$900. THAT is more than enough to ask for Sony to ask for an APS-C camera with a decent kit lens!!! Anything more would be a ludicrous price for any APS-C camera and kit lens!

Probably no A7000 body at any price.
Well, it might not be called "A7000" but Sony isn't going to stop APS-C cameras with the A6000. They make too much money from them.
Perhaps something like an A6000 mark II with a couple of new features such as an electronic level and 4K video. And a price jump.
