Ok, so the lens isn't the problem, but bleh those Quantaray things are seriously terrible lenses.

Are you positive the batteries are in correctly? What about the CR123s? What mode is the camera set to?
I bought a lens today it is a Quantaray Tech-10 NF AF 70-300
1:4-5.6D Macro and used it for a few pictures and then the camera
died. I put new batteries in and still doesn't work. I got it in
June so still under warranty but was wondering if anyone out there
knows if this lens may have caused the camera to stop working. It
was purchased at a camera store.

Sorry to hear that...You made sure you put in totally fresh CR123s and AAs? Did you put another lens on and try?

Other than that, I'd take the batteries out and let the camera sit for a couple hours, and then try again.

I can't say that this lens caused the problem. I will say (and no offense to your purchase) Quantaray lenses tend to be junk and produce pretty bad pics with the S2.

Hi,

Thank you all for responding to my help. I did not put in cr123's because I didn't have any on hand. However, I did put new AA's in and nothing happened and then I plugged it into the AC adaptor and it still didn't turn on. I will try the other things you all suggested. Oh and I did put another lens on and again nothing. I don't understand why a camera would die that is high end and expensive when there was no dropping done. I will say that the motor sounded like it was dragging very slow when I tried to focus automatic.

Even though it's a high end camera, bad ones can make it through QC and get out to customers. Hopefully that's not the case for you.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

Melissa; take your new fresh AA's out of their holder and put them back in as the + - diagram in the tray. I did that once and got the same results even with the 123's... good luck...

Hi Melissa

Since ou have a power supply for your camera, take out all batteries and plug the power supply into the camera and see if it works. You can do wthis with the lens removed in case its somehow shorting out the body(not real likely). Also, open up the cr123a compartment and stick your finger in there and push in on the little battery detector switch...its possible that its already pushed in and the camera thinks that you have dead cr123a's.

For the same price as the quantaray lens I would have bought either the 70-300 g nikon or even just the 50 1.8. the 50 would give you much much sharper detailed pictures then you will be getting from the quantaray.

This was a very common thing when we were all new to our S2's. The CR123 meter is not very accurate as you've learned. :-)

Hi Melissa

I'm glad that the problem was only a battery problem. I think most of us have experienced this problem at least once. If you're going to be using the cr123's in your camera you might want to consider buying them in bulk. You can get them from Botach Tactical pretty cheap. You can get 20 of them for $25 here:

The camera should run fine with the power supply alone, but maybe not if it contains dead CR's. Alkaline alone are definetely not powerful enough. Ni-Mh are powerful batteries and will run all camera functions for quite a while. Again, I think dead CR's will jam the camera in all circumstances, but I don't have any at hand to verify this...

Yep, I have done that too, thanks to these guys I already knew the answer.
