What are your thoughts on 28-300 on d750 as a travel lens

It is OK but has definite limitations due to its f5.6 speed at focal lengths great than 105mm. I took mine on a business trip to China along with the 14-24mm f2.8 lens and I was often having to shoot at ISO 3200 to compensate for the f5.6. This also makes the camera's autofocus system work harder and the D750 with its f8 AF sensors is a good choice for a camera to use with this particular lens.

I suggest that you add a second lens to provide wider angles such as the compact and lightweight and very sharp 18-35mm f3.5G.Having 18mm to 300mm with two compact lenses (and compared to the 70-200mm the 28-300mm is a compact lens) is great for travel.

When I know I will want to do night photography the second lens I take is the 24-70mm f2.8 to get the 4x improvement in light transmission and much better low light autofocus performance.

Btw, do checkout the gallery from the 28-300 guy who took it to Myanmar.

Wonderful images! Thank you for the link.

He seems to have picked up a 24-70 and 70-200 recently as well, but his 28-300 images look fantastic.
Apparently the 24-70 is the Tamron version:

Yes, indeed.

I have a similar talent. I can make any lens look bad.
