Squirrel-proof feeder

After waging war on the rats for a year and trying many of the squirrel proof things I got a good laugh out of this.

BTW I finally solved the problem but it was not something you could buy.

. . . it's definitely a squirrel.

I wasn't aware they made feeders that would prove squirrels, but there it is! ;-)

My father had a twenty-year battle with squirrels over rights to the bird feeders. He never won and I suppose when he died he lost. Squirrels are amazing critters.

This was just hilarious. Mrs. CC and I were just talking about all the pictures that have been posted about "squirrel proof" feeders and you post this.

Do you have any idea how he got in there?

Thanks for the humour.

however it needs a little work before I would buy the finished product. LOL

Seriously though it just goes to prove that you'll never win against those little critters. It's a great shot and I agree with Lucy you really should send a copy of this to the manufacturer of the "Squirrel-Proof" feeder.

Cheers

We gave up on trying to stop them and just bought more sunflower seed. LOTS of sunflower seed. They're more fun to watch than the birds IMO.
CC,

How he got there is the best part. The feeder is hung from the overhang of the house and he reached over from the gutter to the right and above (out of frame) and swung to the top of the dome grabbing the shaft. He made it around 1/3 of the time. Then clinging to the shaft with his rear feet, reached around and grabbed the tray as he was sliding down.

I kept lowering the dome to keep out larger birds. If I'd lowered it any more =no= birds would have been able to make it in.
Here's one from my Oly OM-4 film camera.

I have another one around where I set the camera on a railing and as the inquisitive squirrels went up to inspect it I snapped a shot. I had it focused for a very close distance and the sound of the mirror flipping before exposure scared them. Their reflexes are so fast I got a pretty good shot of a VERY surprised squirrel. ;) If anyone wants to see it, just ask and I'll look for it.

What a shot - gad I'm still laughing. It doesn't matter what camera these were taken with they are hilarious and what better way to break us all up.

I loved your explaination of how he got in there - it still is priceless.

You know we can go out and take really super pictures but we need things like this to make us all realize what goes on in life.

I've really enjoyed these. Keep them coming. Thanks.

I looked on my CDs and couldn't find the surprised squirrel. It's in bags and bags of prints and negs. Then I would have to find my film scanner which I just looked for last weekend. ;)
Thanks to all again for the comments.

It isn't a "quality" photo, but was the best I could do quickly
through a dirty double pane window.

Yeah, I'm convinced all I'm doing is breeding more intelligent squirrels. Here are some of my pictures (I didn't bother cropping the pictures to eliminate the minor vignetting my C-210 tele-extender lens causes on my C-2100UZ camera):

I didn't bother finding the film scannes and just scanned the print on my flatbed. Was taken with OM-4 and 15mm fisheye lens.
