Show Your Snaps...June 1, 2015

You got some interesting wildlife pictures. I like how you used the Tamron 150-600mm lens for the insect. Looking at the photos with the bird on the nest, I did that also once where I only took a few snaps of the bird, because every time I got close to the bird it moved off the nest and exposed the eggs. It's noble of us in that case to just take a couple of pictures and then move along so we can let them be alone.
Yes with the bird I took 4 quick shots and left her alone. I checked from a distance and she had gone back to the nest once I moved on.

That's great you are having fun on your holiday in sunny weather. It's especially nice to see you use that Tamron 150-600mm lens. That's a good one zooming up to the dog's eyes.

The orchids are especially beautiful with that background. Did you provide anything special for that background?

It's been a long time since I've seen pigeons by their coop. Are the buildings in front the pigeon coop? How many pigeons does your neighbor have? Does he or she let them out on a regular basis? I assume they would always fly back to the coop, as long as there is food available.

I sure did! I pulled out all the stops, my most expensive backdrop. It was a stack of clean laundry with my hubby's black Harley Davidson t-shirt draped over the laundry. If you know how expensive an HD t-shirt can be, this was an expensive set-up :) !!!!!

That's great. :) I've thought about doing that when I take pictures of roses (that is, to use a dark colored cloth for a background). People have suggested that to me in the past.

Well, again I have to say that you did really good. :)

--he has about 75 birds, your seeing the back of the coop in the pictures. The front side has the doors and gratings.

he has had these "racers" as he calls them for a long time. They are neat to watch as they circle the area in mass. They are out more as the temps are warming up so there is more oppritunity to get in flight birds to practice on.

he mails the birds to the starting point, when they come home and go into the coop a little micro chip records the time and then they compare starting and ending times to determine the winner.

He has been racing the birds since 1959. The coop is clean, no smell and he always keeps after the bird's health.

Thanks!
Chris

should have different subjects next week, the wife and I are off to the channel islands (UK) from Saturday to Saturday. Looking forward to capturing some puffins.

Sitting in my living room I have taken quite a few test shots trying to learn the camera. But today was heavily overcast & I ventured out to take a few actual photos now that I finally got a large SD card. The only one I had was from an old P&S, a 256 mb. In Raw I could take 6 shots before it was full, LOL.

So here is a shot up the hill to the East

That's a 100 year old structure, originally a school, converted to a teachery (where the school marm's lived) & abandoned many years ago.

You got some nice-looking birds. What does the second bird have in its beak? It almost looks like something to use to build a nest.
