Hello,

I use Lee Seven5 filters (Polarizing and ND grad) successfully with my 50 Lux ASPH et my 75mm APO ASPH for Landscapes.

I would like to use this filters system with my 21mm Summilux ASPH but there is no way to adapt the filters holder due to the Leica 21 Summilux weird Serie 8 filter.

This is a shame because I love Lee Seven5 filters and this 21 Summilux is rocking.

It seems my only solution is to go for a new lens dedicated to wide angle landscape photography (I cannot do witout the F1.4 of the 21...It's so versatile for many low light occasion: restaurant, interior with available light, street photography, so selling to replace this lens is not an option).

Here are my options:

- 21mm SEM F3.4 ASPH

- 24mm ELMAR F3.8 ASPH

I have a 21mm viewfinder that works well so opting for the 24mm would imply to invest in another viewfinder wich is okay but...so-so. The 24 is cheaper than the 21 anyway so not so much a big issue.

I am attracted to the 21 SEM...but as I already have a 21 Lux...does it really makes sense to have two 21mm lenses ?

Moreover, I am planing in the future to buy either a 35 or 28 Summilux ASPH.

My kit final kit could be so:

21 Lux - 21 SEM - 28 Lux - 50 Lux - 75 APO

or

21 Lux - 21 SEM - 35 Lux - 50 Lux - 75 APO

or

21 Lux - 24 Elmar - 35Lux - 50 Lux - 75 APO

or

21 Lux - 24 Elmar - 28 Lux - 50 Lux - 75 APO (seems the worse option, focal lenghts being very close to each other).

Any idea ?

Sorry, what stops you buying the right filters for the 21 summilux?

Hi !

In fact there is no way to fit the Lee filters holder to the 21mm summilux. The Lee filter holder is designed to screw on your lens via an adapter up to 72mm. But the leica 21mm summilux has a serie8 filter size with no threads :(

Hi! :-)

So is it the case that there are no suitable filters at all for the 21 lux? Not even Leica made? I was thinking that if they exist you could use them instead of your Lee filters so you do not have to buy a new lens.

In terms of options, I think the 21mm SEM F3.4 ASPH is a very good lens. When I was talking with a person from Leica they told me they consider it one of their sharpest lenses. I personally would buy a second lens at the same focal length if there is a difference in size. For example I have the 35 f1.2 Voigt and the 35 f2.5 Summarit and i use them in different circumstances.

Very best, D

There are filters for the 21mm Lux^^
Actually I own a serie 8 uv filter as well as a Serie 8 neutral density filter 3 stop (for wide open shooting in daylight) and 10 stop (for long exposures).
But I do not have any circular polarizing filter nor do I have a grad ND filter because of the 21mm lux hood design which does not permit to use a circular filter, nor a ND grad...nor stacking more than one filter inside the hood :( like ND grad 0.6 + circular Pol).

I see, thanks for the explanation.

You're welcome ;)

24mm summilux and 21mm summilux have this specific hood design wich I think is one of the worst idea Leica ever had. Quite surprising considering these lenses where launched in 2008 which not quite long ago.

Hey there, I see this is a pretty old thread but thought I'd ask here anyway.

I'm relatively new to long exposure and don't quite understand how this filter adapter works. It doesn't seem like you'd do very well sticking an ND filter on this adapter when there's a bunch of cutouts, allowing a lot of light in.

Am I missing something?

For me the 82mm adapter is not useful for the reasons you mention, and for people like me who like to use a UV filter to protect the lens and don't like the lack of a seal between the filter and the lens. Series 8 filters drop in, don't require the adapter and there are a variety of ones from B+W including ND, yellow and orange.
