Hello Fellow Sony Videographers,

A couple of days ago I visited a Sony Center/Show Room in my city and I was experimenting with the SEL18200mm on my beloved Sony A5100. The size of the 18200 is a brilliant match with A5100. I made some test videos at 200mm and the (stationary hand-holding) image stabilization was shockingly great. I simply didn't believe my eyes. I was handholding the camera, I didn't walk; the smoothness of the recording was absolutely gorgeous.

I wanted to buy an AX33 with BOSS, but I think that the OSS of the 18200 is excellent and (possibly) more than enough for the kind of videography I do: no running/walking, simple stationary handholding with some very slow/light panning/tilting.

Do you, Friends, have any positive working (hands-on) experience with the OSS videography with the 18200 or 18105G?

Thank You so much, Miki

The 18-200 has always been a bit large for my tastes. I had t with a NEX-3N and boy was it top heavy. But it's OSS was excellent. I have wonderful panning and fully extended zoom videos from the 18-200. The 18-105 is my go to on the A5100 now - silent focus, rapid FOV changes if you need it, accurate subject tracking low light with kids. It's amazing. I sometimes want for the extra reach of the 200mm but am a weight/size weenie.
I do. It is great. I take it for granted. :)

For video, Sony also sells SELP18200 which is the power zoom version of the regular 18-200. I have the power zoom version of 18-105 and like it a lot but I don't do video. Both are little bit too bulky for regular photo use, IMO.

Just to say I was always very impressed with OSS video on the original silver 18200, it is designed with a 'special' OSS, maybe a larger range than standard OSS in other lenses.

Just go for it I say, the lens is good at shorter end but does loose you some sharpness on 24Mpx at 200mm even if you are at f8, the 55210 is slightly better at 150mm upwards I suspect tho I have not seen side by side comparisons.

The great thing with 18200 is you have all that wide end and long zoom in/out capability.

Thank you, Friends all for your comments. I went back to the Sony show room and I was experimenting with the 18105 as well as the 70200 either. I was absolutely amazed the OSS of all these three Sony lenses. The A5100 has excellently snappy AF-C especially with the F4 lenses. I found the size of the 18200 and the 18105 perfectly fine for the A5100. The price of the 70200 is really intimidating, and I don't think I can justify the premium price for the projects I am doing.

In most video shooting I use a Swivi S4 viewfinder, which makes holding the A5100 extremelly stable, and with the brilliant OSS of the 18200 it is a perfect broadcast quality S35 HD video camera. When I need continuous shooting I can use my Ninja 2

Sony A5100 with LCD viewfinder and Ninja 2.
