What is your favorite fastest lens for the Sony a7 series?

FE55 for me and here's why:

Leitz Summicron-R 50mm, Sony FE55, Canon FL 55/1.2, Minolta MC Rokkor-PG 50/1.4
Leitz Summicron-R 50mm, Sony FE55, Canon FL 55/1.2, Minolta MC Rokkor-PG 50/1.4

My favorite nifty fifties - all wide open. To my eyes, the BOKEH with the FE55 (top right) is the most pleasing. There's more of it with the Canon 55/1.2 and Minolta 50/1.4 but it's more distracting.

f/1.8 may be a bit workmanlike for some people's tastes, but it's actually a pretty good speed when you can use it without having to stop down to clean up the focus target and calm down the BOKEH. Makes for a good price and size point (compared to what a similarly performing 1.4 would be). Every once in a while I feel as though I could use a tad more speed, but more often - particularly as I get in closer - it would probably be best to go ahead and stop down some.

FE 55 F1.8 is a special lens. I imagine myself shooting E/FE mount for many more years due to it.

M42 Super Takumar 50mm F1.4, this lens isn't sharp wide open but it renders OOF area beautifully. When I want the classic film like look I turn to it.

FD 50mm F1.4 S.S.C this lens is quite the opposite of the Super. It's sharp, I now know why Canon became so popular. Great contrast as well. FE 55mm is of course sharper and over all better. But the FD is fun to shoot with when I want to Manual focus.

Saving all my pennies for Bada$$ (Batis) 85mm F1.8.

Still contemplating if I should pick up the FE 35mm F1.4.

Just wish I had more than two kidneys, so I could sell one to buy more lenses and bodies.

When A7R prices drop to nothing after the A7RII shows up, I dream of getting another and never taking the FE55 off it. My own RX2, so to speak.

I've been surprised how good FD lenses are on the A7/R.

I'm very proud of you for using the name! I'll do my best to use it every time I mention it as well..maybe it will stick, you'll become famous, people will give you free lenses in exchange for naming them...

For me it's the 90/2.8. I mean, there isn't a logical reason why I'd need it if I get the Badass...

When you attach Canon FD 50 mm 1.4 to the A7, is the A7 using the crop mode or FF MODE?
It's a FF lens so no crop mode. If you adapt FF lenses and are experiencing crop mode than you need to set in the menu to turn APSC Capture off its #5 under settings. Also enable release w/lens under settings #3.
