Does anyone know how to put picures on a CD in a format that you can play it on a home DVD player and view the pictures?

WinOnCD ( http://www.cequadrat.com ) supports the creation of Video CDs, which can be played on most (but not all) DVD players. To purchase, you need to go through Adaptec direct sales (they acquired WinOnCD).

Check out this website:

This should get you started in the right direction.

I have created Video CD slide shows using "Nero" (free trial available at http://www.ahead.de ). My player (Panasonic A110) requires CD-RW media. My only complaint is that the quality is not as good as I expected. There does not seem to be an option to use the 704x480 hi res mode of Video CD.

But, it could also be a problem with my player. Let us know how it works for you.

Does WinOnCD support the "high quality" (704x480) mode for Video CDs?
Yes, it does. The WinOnCD 3.7 support the "high quality" pictures and with it you can make folders and menus on the CD with background graphics!

I went to their website and the software looks like what I'm looking for, but there doesn't seem to be any way to purchase here in the U.S. Do you know any way to buy it in the U.S.?

Les, How did you make a Video CD slideshow using Nero? The following was what I did. Using Nero, I dragged & dropped images from a Window folder to a Video CD compilation window. Then I told Nero to burn the CD. The resultant Video CD was accepted OK by my VCD reader and images were displayed on my TV. BUT there is one slack. I had to press the forward button on the remote control of the VCD reader to move from one image to the next. In other words, this is a manual slide show. Is there any way to create an automatic slide show ? For instance, the images will change after every 5 seconds. Thanks! Daniel

I have tried Both Nero and WinOnCd 3.7.

Nero did the best job for me. The slide show was very good quality on my TV while played through my Pioneer DVD player. In Nero you can tell the CD how long to pause between pictures or do in Manually, with the next button, which is a pain.

I have been following post in different Newsgroups for months trying to find the best software to do this. So far Nero is by far the best results I have gotten so far, not perfect but better than nothing. If someone would write a program to do everything we all wanted, they could sell thousands of copies.

As far as Nero goes I just drop my pictures in the creation window and have it burn I the CD. No resizing needed. I am using the high quality mode on my Nikon 950 for the raw files to create the CDs with. One note is that I have had no luck in Nero trying to create a SVCD. It burns OK but when I play it in the DVD player all I can access is the first picture. But in the standard VCD mode it works fine. As far a quality goes I see no difference between the pictures on screen from the standard VCD as compared to the one picture I can access on the SVCD disk.

I think I saw an option for slide duration on each picture. But, I did not want that so I did not play with it. I think (did not try) you can change the "duration" by right clicking the picture after you have dragged it to the compilation window.

BTW, how was the quality from your point of view? Was it as good as you expected (hoped)? What player are you using?

Les- Thanks. You are right. Right click on a picture to go to properties and change the duration.

The quality of the VCD is as good as my expectation. I am buring a VCD only and not a Super VCD. Someone posted somewhere saying Nero was not working properly when buring a Super VCD.

Anyway I only got a VCD/CD player at home. It is made by Sharp and can read VCD and music CD only. BTW, I used CD-R and not CD-RW media.

Daniel,

Is your TV/player an NTSC or PAL model? I asak because PAL users seem to get good results, but not NTSC. There is no Nero setting that I can find to select NTSC vs PAL. My guess is that a PAL VCD is always produced.

Les - My TV is PAL. The VCD Player is auto-switching to NTSC and PAL depending on the CD inserted.
