I have just ordered this 1mm thin super coated polarizer from delta for 65 bucks.
This would be my first ever try with a polarizer and on my 10D and 28-135IS
Any body with experience with this filter and comments?

Thanks
NKH

with all my L lenses as they are all 77mm and it works out great. I use that cp on my 16-35 2.8L with NO vignetting at all. I couldn't ask for more than that. The multicoating is just a bonus......

I just bought this filter for my 70-200 mm f/4L a few weeks ago. It was my first polarizer also. I have been very pleased with it so far. It does help alot with deepening the color of the sky (just remember it's there and may need to be rotated for the best results!).

been using the hoya hmc/shmc on various digital cameras for the past 3 years. Not just good, GREAT!

How did you get that price? The Delta website quotes $85 for the 72mm SHMC Pro1 !

Really?

I'm still a bit skeptical in purchasing this polarizer coz' I have read from various websites that the Super Pro1 and the SMHC ones do not have a front female thread. Instead, it is mentioned that it will take Hoya's own lens cap.....(confused????)

I am thinking of purchasing the SMHC cir-pol instead (3mm)..... do you think it will take the Canon lens cap? If it doesn't, I'll opt for a sturdier brass framed B+W cir-pol.

BTW Michael, is your lens cap the original Canon one?

yes...........i have the s-HMC (5mm) that is 67mm size for a 70-200 f/4, and it does not have front female threads. the pro 1 version (1mm) which is 77mm size for my 24-70 and 17-40 has the front threads that accepts the original canon lens cap.............i guess i'll have to post a picture of it later today for those that don't understand what's being said here..........;-))

I got the 58 and 72 mm s-HMC pro Cir pol's. Great filters period.

I must admit, I gotta problem with typo's

Troponin,

Where did you purchase those from? So far, DeltaInternational is the only store that sells the Hoya Cir-Pol Super Pro 1 version.

John, I was lucky enough to buy it seconds before delta updated their price. A minute later I saw the new $85 price.

And thank you all for your info/coments.

Damn!! :-p

Before finding out that there exists a 3mm Hoya Super Pro-1 version for the circular polarizer, I sorta' decided to get the 4mm B+W MRC one over the Hoya SMHC instead because the B+W has a front thread (I wanna use my original Canon lens cap).

Now I'm having trouble deciding between both...... hmmm..... difference of 1mm, price and the build (brass vs aluminium).

Do you have any B+W filters/polarizers? What's your take on the B+W?

I do have a slight favour for the B+W - I'm gonna put it on my 17-40L lens and future L-lenses. I'm aware it shouldn't vignet on the 10D because of the crop factor, but what if I decide to upgrade to a future full-frame DSLR..... do you think the thinner Hoya glass will make a difference in vignetting?

BTW, quick question, I would like to save cost by purchasing a step-up (correct?) ring so that I can use the same 77mm cir-pol on my 72mm threaded 28-135IS. Will that cause any problems eg. vignetting on my 28-135IS, or should I do it the other way around?

Thanks in advance!

i have been a die hard Hoya fan, but recently bought a 35.5mm B+W UV for my wifes Minolta S414. not that i think every lens needs one, but it makes my job of cleaning fingerprints off a lot easier.

when i first got the B+W filter and felt the quality, i wanted to replace all my Hoyas with B+W's................at this point in time, i would be spending my "lighting" funds and therefore i will keep the Hoya's.

last Saturday however, i did need to clean the B+W filter on her cam and i was amazed, no streaks or oily swirls (usually the case with Hoyas), and once again i decided that when one of my Hoya's needs replacing, it will be with a B+W.

i hope this helps you in your decision, and i wish i had known these facts when i first started buying filters.

the Hoya's are excellent optically, but in all other aspects, i feel that B+W's hold the edge.
