D7000, but I'm in the dark about how to check shutter count. How do you do that?

D7100, bought 6 months ago. 2500 shots up to now. Still trying to understand what I like most (at the moment the right answer is: everything!), keeper rate 20 - 25% (I think) because, not being a pro, I prefer taking 3 or 4 different shots of the same subject and then choosing the most satisfying.

What defines a keeper? I have thousands that are technically fine, but boring or nondescript, IMHO. Still, I haven't deleted them yet - but I will, at some point.
Of the shots I've taken, I still have about 50% of them. Of those, only a very few are worth showing to anybody else or printing. Depressing, ain't it? :-(
