Nx500 raw wireless shooting

I'm going to buy an nx 500

I'd like to shoot panorama from a 4mt pole

the question is: can I stream the view to a mobile ios app and shoot in raw?

where can I found the API to control the camera so i can develop my own app?

thank you

I can't speak to the NX500 directly however, I suspect with the NX1 Samsung is going to keep things very simple on the x00 series cameras now. As they are positioned for under 30s in South Korea who really only want JPG. I personally think it is a bit short sighted but it was only recent any of the cameras had RAW with remote viewfinder. Lots of features but are geared to advanced JPG shooters.

The NX1 and NX30 (iirc) are the level where the Remote viewfinder will do RAW. I can't recall if the NX300 had RAW from Remote viewfinder but it seems Samsung has decided to leave that feature. likely to push people to the NX1 and NXx0 series.

I kinda get it though, their primary market is still South Korea where those buying the NXx00 are advanced JPG shooters, using the primes much of the time to take pictures of their friends getting drunk. So get the people that know how to use the camera to the higher level cameras and keep the drunk people from accidentally taking a RAW picture they can't do anything with.

I understand only nx3000, nx30 and nx1 save raw files in combination with the remote viewfinder app. Samsung released large parts of the source code, but this part is most probably closed. There is no api reference for this source either.

So unless someone hacks the camera, you're out of luck. Id go for one of the other options, then there is no need to write an app for it either.

edit:
a discussion of the protocol can be found here http://op-co.de/blog/posts/hacking_the_nx300/

NX300 don't have raw... It only shoots auto!

Are you sure? I was always under the impression the Pro app worked for the NX300. If that is indeed the case that makes much more sense to me, that they have always considered the NXx00 series that way. Though if the NX3000 can... why wouldn't the NX300 or 500? that just seems weird.

Never heard of this Pro app. In NX300M they dropped the support to remote viewfinder. Instead they use Smart Camera App, which takes the role of Remote Viewfinder and Mobile Link. I even posted a thread a couple days ago. Not even a single reply... http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3836188

I wrote at least 10 posts complaining about the fact that nx300 doesn't use remote evf pro, even if it has the same hw as nx30.

Samsung simply cripples its lower end cameras. It's a fact. You can accept it or not, but it's the reality.

In fact from now on I'll only buy top end, even if they are huge.

Sorry Pro "app" is just the phrased used for the RAW vs Jpg only option that are available depending on which camera is attached.

I never saw your posts but it's good to know that I am doing nothing wrong.

NX30 is a little bit huge for me, in size and price (almost the double). I want a camera that I can easily carry everywhere, that's why I went the mirrorless route. I almost got a MFT, but comparing IQ, money spent and ease in finding lens, NX300M won by a large margin.

Hopefully market and competitors will force them to make a FW update where RAW with remote is accessible. It is just a software issue and can be resolved with some ear and attention.

In a year time when Samsung will need to decide to lower the price by 50, or issue a goof FW upgrade instead, I hope they will go for a richer content.

They never did with nx300...

so these are not the API for the Samsung nx500?

https://developer.tizen.org/
Yes, they are. However, anything related to grabbing raw data from sensor, communicating with lens etc. is not there. These things are proprietary and not a part of the open source code release.

Thats the API for the opensource Tizen OS that the camera uses. Anything usefull is packed away inside a binary file thats not released. If you're interested, you can find the sourcecode for the NX300 here:
http://opensource.samsung.com/recep...m=photography&classification1=digital cameras

It only gives you the opensource part though, no access to the magic binary blob.

Fun note, there's a "NX1SDK" on that list, its only a modified version of ffmpeg though.

unbelievable.

I'm not interest in any hacking, but why the hell release a crippled API?

why releasing an API for a camera that then you can't interact with the major camera functions?

They put so much effort in having a connected camera, but then they made it useless.

I'm speechless

DEAR SAMSUNG, DO YOU REALLY THINK WE WANT TO SHARE A 28 MEGAPIXEL PICTURE ON FACEBOOK?

To be fair, I suppose it eould be posible to add some functionality. Imagine running your own backup service in the background for example.
Im not touching it though, wouldnt risk bricking my camera.

Samsung is protecting its own software, it might be they dont want the competition using their tech.

Still, how cool would it be to allow users adding their own scripts and apps...
