The lighting is terrific on this shot. I'm not as fond of the busy bokeh in the background, though. Very nice work.
Put me down as one who loves the so-called "busy bokeh" (I'd call it a kaleidoscopic, swirling background)!

The thing is, the big white blob-o-bokeh to the left of the model's face draws the eye away from her. I don't particularly like the very smooth bokeh of the other photo that was posted, so perhaps just toning down the distracting element in this one would keep the eye focused on her and not the background, and leave it as an interesting textural element rather than competition for attention.

So not "busy bokeh;" rather, a semi-blown out spot in the background?

Thanks for the comments, will try different cropping ratios next time.

Some lucks and trials and errors. Hows that for an answer?

Set up with background against a window. Tuned exposure to the centre portion of the orchid and let the petals over exposed a stop to let the light thru.

Here is another one, see if you like it? I tried to capture the petals as if a water color painter would stoke its brush. It would likely be better if I stacked the centre of the flower with another shot to capture a bit more details with +1EV.

We are talking about two different things here, actually. I am not a fan of the busy bokeh, but if it could be utilized as more of a patterned background than competition for the model, it could work ok. As it is, the combo of the active background pattern along with the blown out area is just too much for me.

I do like the watercolor effect very much.

I do a lot of flower photography, (usually outdoors) and generally end up with dark (shaded) backgrounds against sunlit flowers. You've given me something to think about trying this flower season to vary it up a bit :) .

hello, thanks, the place is Cappadoccia, Turkiye... there're a lot better views you can see in there...

Thank you. Unfortunately they haven't had the chance to get better acquainted until this afternoon. I have been having some major renovations done in the house and the only way I could keep both of them safe from the tools, chemicals etc. also kept them separated.

Now that the construction crew has cleaned up and moved out I am letting them get acquainted. There is no animosity between them but so far Trooper is just physically overwhelming to the little one, not that she is afraid of him. They need some time together and they are just starting to have that time.
