Traveling with one camera to force myself to learn and use it. Second one taken from a moving car.

I love the clarity of these Joel.

Took a trip to the Flickr Leica D-LUX (Typ 109) pool and I like the sample images from various photographers.

Pierre, thanks..... i am still getting familiar the menu system is not as straight forward as the GR and i have to learn it better. The IQ is good, not as sharp opened wide as a GR, and that has spoiled me, but it is nice to have a bit of zoom. Not used to the zoom yet, it has been many years since i really played with one

It looks like it is working well for you Joel.

I can never figure out Leica's D-Lux numbering and the term De-Luxe wore itself out years ago in car models where it ended up sounding a rather pretentious way of extracting a few more shekels out of Mr&Mrs Public.

So I looked it up to see if it was a Panasonic by another name. It is, and is seemingly a pricey version of the LX100. At least there is a full review test of the LX100 to see how the D-Lux 109 might perform.

Nice camera. A sort of GXR with much the same number of pixels and roughly the same size and weight kitted up. Pity the aps-c zoom on the GXR had to be so large (and slow) to fit the full aps-c image circle. The GXR of course had no evf and the exchange of evf for flash unit on the D-Lux 109 has to be a step forward.

It seems that Panasonic always had a covetous eye on adding the Ricoh market to their own. Since the LX3 which rode the GX100/200 out of town.

Now they have the GX7 directly in the GXR bracket, the GM1, GM5 & GF1 models neatly filling up GXR-Lite and a very useful hybrid GX100/GXR in the premium fixed zoom market as the LX100/D-Lux109.

The GR still stands alone having seen off the Nikon A.

I would like to see a GR with a lens mount, but which one? A GR with a M mount would be crazy-good for some fanatics like myself making the smallest Leica clone in the business. They have done the design hard yards with the mount module. It might just need finding the corporate will to do this. Making GR with GXR mount rails or a M4/3 mount might just be too much to ask.

And of course the Ricoh Mode2 focus peaking is still the best in the business and, unlike the others, works in AF gives a pre-indication of dof.

The GR is a classic and a stalwart, but for my book Ricoh needs to re-assert itself as the market leader in way-out innovation

I own both the GR and the LX100. I find it a nice tag team. GR is my fast, ultra compact hip shooter for me here in NYC. LX100, with its zoom and EVF, is better for landscapes, situations you have more time or anything needing a little bit of zoom. Fully extended to 75mm, it can make an ad hoc portrait camera.

I'm kind of curious which camera makes for the better low light solution. The LX100 opens up to f/2.1 at its 28mm equivalent. I wonder if the Ricoh's slightly larger sensor is enough to make up for its lens being a stop slower. My guess is that it's a wash, but if you don't mind going wider, the LX100 probably pulls ahead at 24mm where it can open to f/1.7.
