Ordered this from amazon warehouse deals the other day and when it arrived I snapped it onto my Galaxy NX only to find that it would not focus and it wasn't possible to select an aperture (just displayed f- ).
The lens appeared to be new but when inspected closely it seems not to have any aperture blades! Any idea what might have happened?

Aperture is full open, so you do not see anything. Only when you take a picture, then it jumps in. Send it back, probably some connection problem between body and lens.

Yeah, I've already arranged for a return and have found a 2D only version for around £50 less so it's not so bad.
just a bit gutted as I wanted to try out the 45mm last weekend!

Just had a glance at my copy - the 3D diaphragm (which is visible in the picture) is retracted when the lens is not attached to a camera body.

I might be wrong, though - I have never used this feature as I only have an NX1000 and an NX mini, perhaps it stays extended when it's been used on a 3D-capable camera body in 3D mode?

Check here if your Samsung NX / NX mini camera & lens firmware is up to date!

I thought the optics were the same in the 2d and 3d versions?

When in 3d mode the lens switches to f6.

I think they are. If you never plan to shoot 3D images get the 2D only version for less money; you don't lose anything but the 3D gimmick.

Where can I order it? 50 bucks for 45mm lens!

Sorry, I meant £50 less than the 3d version, I've ordered the 2D lens for around £160

This works both ways - if the price is similar, why not get the 3D variant? You don't lose anything except that you get the 3D gimmick ;)

It's a common myth that the 3D variant has worse IQ. I compared the output from my copy of the 3D with samples taken with 3D and they seem on par. Even the high end lenses have copy variance, thus it's important to buy from a source which accepts returns in case you get a dud.

Agreed if the price was similar I'd have gone for the 3D version, but in the end the 2D version was quite a bit cheaper. Also, I have nothing to display the 3D images on!

Also, another thing I've found out is that the 2D/3D lens is lacking the AF/MF button, which for me is more useful than having 3D anyway.
