This may be a self-answering, ridiculous question, so please do forgive me, but...

My understanding is that the SB-600 must be in TTL mode to be controlled via Phottix Odin.
I am playing around with manually setting flash power from the Phottix Odin trigger, which makes the pre-flashes just a waste of power. Just wondering if there is any way to stop the SB-600 from pre-flashing.

thanks

ok.... reminding myself of the old expression..... RTFM...

'tis the red-eye reduction feature of which I speak.
looking to see if I have this currently enabled in-camera, and if it can be disabled....
Hi, I think not.

I shoot Canon so I can't be definitive re Nikon, but on our side, the redundant pre-flash in M cannot be removed. Usually it's not a problem - and the power used is minimal.

Interestingly, Phottix's Mitros + for Canon does not pre-flash in M - maybe the same applies for Nikon?

If your bodies have an 'FV Lock' function (FEL on Canons), that discharges any pre-flash in M early and makes metering the 'capture-flash' easy. Phottix have an alternate metering method, depending on which firmware you are running - I much prefer the FEL technique.

I still love my Odins ..

Cheers

I suspect that ScratchDisk may have been most on target here... I am referring to the group of three quick flash bursts that preceed the main flash that occurrs during exposure. I am not referring to the red light that puts a "grid" on the subject.

. . . . you should be able to turn that off OK.

However if you get into using an external flashmeter while controlling your remote SBs with the Odin TCU set to M, then re-read my post above. Good luck.

will do. thank you, sir.
