Need some help with FZ000 front to back focus.

...If you have a better SLR you'll find that they have something called micro focus which allows you to adjust where the lens focuses, if the lens focuses nearer than what you focused on that is said to be front focusing or to the back which is said to be back focusing. My FZ1000 tends to focus slightly more to the front and the only way to fix it is to have the lens calibrated.

That's why I wanted someone to try it out to see if it is just my camera or if it's the same with all the FZ1000. Thanks again for your reply and hopefully some others will try this test and let us know the results.

Doesn't your FZ1000 use contrast detection for AF?

Your SLR/ D-SLR can have front focus or back focus issues...but that's using a different type AF technology altogether...phase detection.

Quite different that contrast detection.

DOF issue here...not front or back focus....not an issue with contrast detection....but is /can be an issue if camera has phase detection AF.

One of the better functions of CD AF is it's accuracy.

One of it's weaknesses is speed, and tracking ability.

Sorry, DFD is actually a software approach adopted by Panasonic (Olympus, another 43 member used PDAF on CDAF sensor to similar effect) to improve its AF tracking ability allowing its mirrored camera to better compete with DSLR's PDAF.

It was first introduced in Panasonic's flagship GH4, and luckily FZ1000 has same feature.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is a function to improve tracking ability of fast moving (specially to predict on movement in irregular direction) but not causing the so called back focus issue commonly seen in PDAF sensors.

After following your thread here, I suspected that you might have an issue on putting the focus point on some places not expected.

DFD is a contrast based technology and uses the difference of two "contrast signals" to determine the position of the focus which aids in moving it in the correct direction rather than back and forth and delaying focus acquisition. I think you are seeing a problem where in fact there is none.
You may be right, I do know in the ruler test that the small green box was on the 12" & 24" mark but at this point I'm going to let it go and just see what happens in the field. Hopefully all will work out well.
