Panasonic GX8 in May?

If you go to the B&H website you will see that they are still selling both the silver and black GX7 kits with the 14-42mm zoom. What they stopped selling months ago, is the bodies only. In fact, when I bought a GX7 in 2013, you could only get the kit in the U.S. so all they've done is go back to what was available before.

As for 4K video, there are very few affordable TVs or Monitors to play it on in the market and no commercial offerings either. Like other technologies, it will take time.

As for mirrorlessrumbers, fujirumors, nikonrumors and the rest of the rumors sites, they all share one thing in common; the word RUMORS.

I absolutely LOVE my GX7 but the EVF is the one item that I wish were better. They used a 16:9 panel and this was a tragic mistake.

Put in a 2.36mp 4:3 EVF panel...and add LIVE BULB and LIVE TIME and it would be stellar.

I don't give a wit about video....and 16mp rez is AOK as is, for me.

Well, I guess not. I'm hoping the GX8 will be a little higher res with a better EVF.

I like everything about my GX7 and especially the EVF with the accessory eye cup. Unlike others on this forum, I would be very happy if Panasonic left the Video capability out of the GX8. I have that on the GH4 and if I want "video" in a serious way, I will purchase a Video Camera.

I am fine with the EVF (but improved is of course always better).

What it NEEDS to make sense to me is a microphone jack.

Video working above ISO 3200 would help too....as would a stop or two better high ISO.

Oh and the grip could do with a (very slight) change.....I am forever hitting buttons unintentionally with the GX7.

I like the image quality from the Gx7 but I am sure that it would have sold a LOT better if it scored higher on DXOmark.

Unless it is spectacular, I wont be buying it as I prefer larger sensor cameras and I don't need 4k yet (and maybe not for a few years) but change a few things and it would sell by the truckload I think.

The GX7 will suffice for me for a M4/3 camera for a while yet though.

I have the accessory eyecup for the GX7 too, it does help but if you compare the GX7's 4:3 view to that in the Oly VF-4, I bet you would rather have that "much larger" VF-4's view in the GX7.

The GX7's EVF is nice and clear, and of course usable, But putting in a native 19:9 panel...not such a good idea.

The LED rear screen on the GX7 is absolutely superbl.

Do agree the IBIS is behind Oly.

And there is the problem of your thumb pressing buttons that you didn't mean to press. I keep hitting "display" changing what is seen in the EVF. But could be easily fixed via a Firmware update...

On the Plus side, if you are a PEN user, you'd be pleasantly surprised at how much customization you can do to the GX7 to "make it yours". Also like 5 custom setting sets, 3 of them on the top dial. And the 40 FPS mode, is wildly cool...

I’m very satisfied with my GX7, but I still want a GX8 with native ISO100, 14bit raw, more pixels, better SNR and DFD.

Also I hope the EVF will not protrude so much like GX7.

Well I'm glad it's being delayed. I love my GX7 - but suspect I'll fall for the GX8, and dispense with monies I could have used for lenses. I'm waiting for the 42.5 1.2 to fall bellow a grand, and I would rather invest in that rather then a new body. I only have 1 wish in a new GX8 - and that's an electronic first curtain for the mechanical shutter. I use the excellent but shutter shock prone 14-140mm II lens, and would prefer not needing to worry about the downsides of the e shutter.

Possibly a new m43 size sensor will be revealed on a new video camera on April 13 at NAB, and possibly that sensor will appear in a new regular m43 camera later in the year. Panasonic is among the few camera makers who also make sensors.

My wishlist for a GX8 includes:

DFD
4K (tho I'd probably prefer keeping the IBIS if both aren't possible)
EFC
better sized EVF

Roughly in that order, DFD is the biggie... Weather sealing would be great too tho highly unlikely. I'll take any sensor improvements they wanna give us tho I'd settle for 12 bit output with a 1/20s readout when using the electronic shutter. I hope they don't mess with the size or the tilt screen or even the controls...

I'm currently waiting for an M43 camera with good 4K 60p video that records in h.265 format. If the GX8 has that, and if it retains the flip screen and viewfinder, then I'll probably be in.

But the realist in me acknowledges that those video features will probably be reserved for the next entry in the GH series.

Apparently there is still a lot of GX7 that has to be cleared, delaying the release of the GX8. It would have been been much more successful if it had a better EVF, one that is better quality and stabilised for video. The IBIS should be improved too to be more competitive.
There was a rumor that the GX8 would be announced in May, and now the rumor is that it will be announced in September. The change could simply mean that the first rumor was erroneous, not that the release has been delayed.

IF the release has been delayed, I would think it unlikely that is because there are still a lot of GX7 units in stock. I would imagine that the GX8 has been in development for a while, and once it's ready they will release it. I don't think it wouldn't make sense to wait at that point and make your latest camera somewhat dated before it is even released, just to sell off an old model. I would expect the old one to just be marked down further to sell it off.

I am really curious what features GX-8 will bring. And compared to X-Pro2. I am a Fuji user and have to admit I am impressed how great features GX-7 already has compared to Fuji, i.e. 4 Fn buttons, 3 Custom buttoms, 1/8000s, 1/320s sync flash, -4 EV AF, NR -5, AF-L/AE-L placed near thumb, etc. Dynamic range is also much greater than Fuji's, and files are very detailed. It seems amazing cam now, one can only imagine what GX-8 will be. I have never considered M4/3 because of its smaller sensor vs FF and APS-C, especially I shoot (and love) 3:2 size, but GX-8 may change it if it will be even better. Hope so.

I'm waiting on a cheap enough camera with 4K and 24fps so I can buy into a body for video purposes. The GH4 is a little above my means at the moment. Whether that's a GX7 or G7 it doesn't bother me so much.

+1

Don't need 4K video. Get the GH4 for that. Give us improved full time IBIS and faster fully electronic shutter (1/30 sec would be nice) - better weather resistance would be great too. I'd be willing to lose the articulated EVF as that's one feature I rarely use - others will feel differently I'm sure. EFCS perhaps too.
