f/2.4 now operates same as 'A' on aperture ring (60mm)

I just purchased a XF 60mm.

Lens firmware 2.01. Worked fine on my X-A1 and X-E1.

After updating to firmware 3.10 the f/2.4 position on the aperture ring operates exactly like the 'A' position. On the X-E1, turning the aperture ring either to 'A' or 'f/2.4' now selects 'P' mode. On the X-A1, either enables dial selection of aperture when 'A' is selected on mode dial.

Is this a firmware bug? Does anyone else have this issue?

It now seems to be operating correctly so perhaps an intermittent fault with the lens. Will send it in if it recurs.

Thanks for looking though.

my lens XF 60mm f/2.4 macro exactly the same problem. I set the aperture ring and the camera aperture 2.4 goes from aperture priority "A" automatic mode "P" Ka you solved this problem with my lens?

I have both the X-E1 and X-E2 (the former being the original camera I used when I purchased the XF 60mm). I updated the 60mm to version 3.10 on the X-E2 running firmware version 1.2. It works as expected @ the f2.4 position. And, I just tested the same lens on the X-E1 with firmware version 2.10 (not the latest one recently posted to support the XF 56mm f1.2) and it works the same as the X-E2 @ the f2.4 position. All appears to be good.

Perhaps, it's a bug with the new X-E1 version 2.20 firmware? Is that what you with issues are all running? If that is the case, then I'm glad I didn't install that on my X-E1. With Fuji, you never know. Sometimes I feel like they do firmware development in a vacuum. Updates are never 100% IMHO. They need real life beta testers, of a program of such, to get it right. But, I digress from the topic. Or do I?

Mine started working properly after some usage - and turning of the aperture ring. I didn't do anything special. Sorry, don't know what to tell you...

Could the problem be specific to the "Mode" the camera is being used in?

The problem was that the camera interpreted setting f/2.4 as setting the 'A' position on the aperture ring which switches the camera to 'P' mode from 'A' mode if the shutter speed dial is set to 'A' (on all Fujis except X-A1 and X=M1).

Are you sure that the camera is working properly, and not just displaying the info incorrectly? Does the photo's EXIF data match what the camera displays?

How does the aperture behave in Shutter Priority?

Yes, it was happening on two bodies with that lens.

My guess is that the aperture ring which simply lets the camera know what it is set to wasn't working properly initially - maybe something wasn't making contact.

The camera is working properly. On the other XF 35mm lens no such problems. EXIF data is consistent with what the camera shows, after you set the aperture from 22 to 2.8. When set to 2.4 mode is activated "P". If you set the shutter priority mode, then for any value of shutter speed and aperture value of 22 to 2.8 indicates the mode "M" If you set the aperture ring on the 2.4 - the camera switches to the "S" output. Rightmost position the lens aperture ring "2.4" corresponds to the far left position of the ring "A". Possible manually install 2.4 on the average position of the ring between 2.8 and 2.4 If you click on the 2.4 - the Automatic mode.

Mine xf60 has the same problem. Started from 2 and was getting worse. Ring works properly down to 3.6 now. Then it's auto. Apertures 3.2 and 2.8 appear when I shift the ring towards lens end (0.2-0.3mm ring clearance), and get back to Auto after I release the ring.

So I'm pretty sure there's something with wiring. Corrosion?

It didn't annoy me on X-A1, I could set aperture with rear dial. But I switched to x-pro1 and it's impossible to set aperture less then 3.6. It's really sad.

Over the last year or more, I have read of others with this problem. The FIX was sending the XF60 in for repair. I've had no problems with mine. Good luck.

My 23mm switches to "A" mode when the aperture ring is from f2.8 to f4. Very annoying. Firmware is up to date and I cannot send it in under warranty because I bought it used.

Anyone have any pointers?

Yesterday I was cleaning front glass with a microfiber rag and front plastic inner ring had moved. So I rotated this ring for a few turns. Rotated back.

And wow! Ring is fixed today! Works perfect, every 1/3 stop.

Thanks for the tip

I tried that but didn't have the same luck with my 23. What I did find though is that I am able to get every 1/3 stop by pushing forward (toward the front element) on the aperture ring while turning it. That leads me to conclude that the electronics are not making contact between f2.8 and f4.

It's a good thing that I either shoot this lens wide open or stopped down to f11.

This is something that does happen with Fuji Lenses. Check the Fuji specific forums, people have been dealing with this failure mode for quite some time.

As some have stated it's a contact issue, make sure everything is tight.

In most cases you'll need to have the lens repaired by Fuji.
