Hi folks,

These images were taken with the Pentax DA*300mm f/4 + Pentax-F 1.7X AF Adapter + Pentax 1.4X HD AW. These were all taken with Contrast Detect Autofocus (CDAF). I tried Phase Detect Autofocus (PDAF) on the Pentax K-3 but it didn't work out very well,

It was not a good day, the wind was blowing like crazy, the light was dim, and the Bighorns were actually too close. I was hoping to get a full body shot but no luck. Anyway, what you see is what you get. No cropping was done on these images...only resized for the web.

Images #1 and #2 were taken with the Pentax K-01.

Images #3 and #4 were taken with the Pentax K-3.

Image #1 - Pentax K-01

Image #1 - Pentax K-01

Image #2 - Pentax K-01

Image #2 - Pentax K-01

Image #3 - Pentax K-3 CDAF

Image #3 - Pentax K-3 CDAF

Image #4 - Pentax K-3 CDAF

Image #4 - Pentax K-3 CDAF

Cheers.

Ron

Ron,

thanks for checking this combo - seems not as good as two 1.4X HD AW.

General remark/questions:

These imgs were only resized for the web (800 pixels vertical). According to theory resized imgs have to be resharpened also to maintain sharpness. Agree?

Does DPR alter the imgs too?

To get around, the best may be to make available the unaltered original (whatever that is).

I have no idea about all of the above.

These images look sharp to me.

I have done nothing different than I have done for the last ten years.

good to know - thanks Ron.

Interestingly though they all show the distinctive contrast drop that TC stacking causes the k3 seems less affected than the k01.

The dual 1.4 HD seem to handle it better than any I've seen before but this combo you've done here seem similar to stacking the Sigma 2x and 1.4x DG converters

Ron, you keep amazing me with the horns of these animals! The last shot has me amazed again, it's close to two big horns with the rest. Lovely to watch.

Hey Ron,

I always enjoy your mash ups of TC's, etc. and these are cool as usual, we don't get to see these critters in Florida, that's for sure. Thanks for sharing.

But... would you please stop throwing boomerangs at the wildlife? Heh heh...

Joking aside, I've never seen dust that shape before... something on the sensor or???

They look sharp to me too. May be the light causes that with 2 1.4 TC's it looks better.

Cheers

The dullness of the day as Ron mentioned might be causing some confusion between actual lens sharpness and scene contrast. Just a theory.

I will try it again another day when I have better light.
