Hey All,

How is the 50-200 on the NX1? Can't imagine it's great at $269. I've read it has chromatic aberration and some other issues. When shooting raw does lightroom automatically correct for this? The 50-150 is out of my budget, guess this is the only option right?

Greg

To me, it's a must buy lens because it's cheap and quality is fairly good.

I have one of the earliest 50-200mm. I don't use it much, but I can't imagine getting rid of it either. And I've enjoyed the results. I would imagine it would be very comfortable to use on the NX1.

Two examples:

After reviewing these images, I think I will get the lens out and try it on my NX500; I think with that 28mp sensor, this could be an interesting pairing.

1. The 50-20mm lens is very high quality. Good.

2. But, the version III has a problem with the NX1 - the OIS does not work in video mode.

Earlier versions of the lens (version I for sure) apparently do not have this problem, which is why some users report good OIS performance with the 50-200mm even in video. But those of us with the III version have essentially 0 OIS in video.

If you do not shoot video this does not matter. But you could help out if you test the lens (assuming it is the III version) in video to confirm this problem is universally true for this version of the lens and not just a few faulty examples.

You will find in this forum a thread dedicated to this lens problem.

I'll be glad to test it. I'm guessing it's obvious with no OIS right?

It's very obvious. As you look through the VF, the image is relatively stable. As soon as you press the video record button or simply go into video standby, the OIS loses almost all of its effectiveness and the image shakes like crazy.

I've never seen a lens perform like this. It's particularly unfortunate in that the lens is very sharp for 4K video, but essentially useless unless you plan to use a tripod for video 100% of the time.

I've held on to the lens for a couple of weeks with the hope that some quick solution would be found. However given the fact that a firmware update is unlikely in a short timeframe, I'll probably be returning the lens next week.

There are 2 modes of OIS, I wonder if you set the other one, would it work in video.

No. That has been suggested many, many times. It does not work for any setting.

most probably a firmware bug. usually Samsung release some bug fix for either lens and camera for certain lenses to function properly. it could be that new V3 lens isn't yet fully compatible/functioning for the new camera.

I have one, very good from 50 to 150. At 200 need some stop down and some more contrast. I found that in many situation the field is anyway Too small at 200mm f5.6!

I just got it in the mail.. Posting a video now.

Unless I have a steady hand it doesn't look bad to me, you think it's working or not? Zoom ring feels crazy stiff to me.
