Love the new camera, a great upgrade from my venerable LX3. Has any body found a small flash with bounce capability that will work well with the LX100? I like the size of the included flash but would like the bounce. Did a search but not sure of the size of the various options.

Thanks in advance

I use the supplied flash, attached to a flash cable and point it in any direction. Works like a charm. Cable costs $10-20.

I brought a Metz 26 AF-1 digital flash for Oly-Panasonic a week ago, only tried test shots around home, seems to work fine, direct and bounce TTL,

Thanks Les, That looks perfect; did you get it from Amazon? They seem to be out of stock at the moment.

I got it from Camera World at the N,E.C photo show, they have branches in Chelmsford and London, have used them a few times, always good service.

New tiny Olympus FL-LM3 and bounces!

The Olympus looks good and I might try it if this Bolt model doesn't fit my needs. I want bounce capability and small form factor. The Bolt might be too big but spec wise it's more powerful. I'll see tonight when it arrives.

Les, my Lumix flash that came with the LX100 got damaged in a bit of an accident. I've not been able to get a hold of anybody at Panasonic or Lumix to find out how to get a replacement. Because of that I've looked into the Metz 26 (which just doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere!).

How does it feel on the LX100? I'd be interested in seeing a shot of it mounted. I kinda drew out the size from the specs and it looks pretty big.

Cheers!

Looks quite interesting but I checked it and states "runs on camera power". Wonder if it would run at all on the LX100?

That's interesting. I bought a Metz 24 AF-1 for my LX100 and it did NOT work!

That's interesting. I also bought a Metz 26 AF-1 for my LX100 and it did NOT work!

It fired, but always at full power. Definitely no TTL function.

I contacted Metz and they confirmed it would not work on the LX100, and that there MAY be a firmware upgrade "sometime in the future".

The Metz.de (German) website has a search feature for compatibility with particular cameras and shows that there is no TTL flash available for the LX100.

I returned it and bought a Metz 20 C-2 which is not a TTL flash but works well in its Auto mode.

If yours really does work maybe they have updated the firmware.
Hi

I've tried it at different apertures, different distances, different iso setting in P, M, S, Ai, direct and bounce, seems ok to me, also all the flash options and adjustments show up in the cameras menu when the flash is turned on, not had much success using it off camera as a slave, don't think the TTL works with this camera in the slave option off camera.

Hope these are good enough.

Sorry Les, I had a brain malfunction! It was the AF 24-1 that I had.

I amended my post, but a bit too late it seems.

Much appreciated Les, what's your opinion of the portability/convenience of the Metz with the LX100? I'm just thinking it looks a bit oversized for the camera?

I do love the auto lens cap though!

Cheers!

You need a bag or jacket pocket, not big though, doesn't over balance when on camera. Auto cap very good, but you can't use filters etc

Have you or anyone else tested this combination? I would purchase that flash in an instant if I knew it worked with the LX100. The extra pins might be problematic, it would have to use the same extra pin layout as the LX100.

Nevermind, I just read this thread:

The FL-LM3 will work with the LX100 but it requires a slight modification (shaving off the front plastic lip). I already have an off camera flash cable and foldable flash diffuser that I use with the LX100's bundled flash, but will probably buy the FL-LM3 as well, since it is less stuff to carry.

Good because I ordered one that will be here Tuesday. I will compare it to the Bolt mentioned above and the stock flash.

Here's some test shots of the Bolt bounce flash I picked up on Amazon for $70 as compared to the factory flash (first photo). It bounces but it doesn't swivel. All shots Program Mode, 0 Flash EV and second curtain sync.

It uses 2 AA batteries but takes about :08 secs to get a ready light from initial power up. I haven't tested it yet for reach.
