BEWARE OF ADORAMA Used Dept.

After several emails and attempts from Adorama (Avi) that they will give me $700 for my Canon xh1s, they even promised the process will be "quick and easy", I finally pulled the trigger, printed the shipping label and found my own box. Got an email on the 9th from Stephanie that they received the package, give them "5-7" days to reply. After about 10 days, I emailed Stephanie for an update, she replied to contact Jacob, I called him the same day, leave a voicemail. A week after, no reply, I emailed Stephanie and Avi asking them that maybe I should do all the work? Avi replied via email that I should call him first thing Monday and he will give me a quote. Now its already the 23th, I feel like I am at a used car dealership where they hand you off until you are tired and just give in. Called Avi around noon, he said to call him back in 10 minutes because Jacob is in a meeting. Then why did you asked me to call you first thing in the morning if you don't have an answer? Ten minutes later, I called Jacob, I asked why he didn't return my call a week ago, he said he never heard of me nor my order #, but then he said the price range for my camera is $350, its not working and he will give me 75% of it, $250. I asked what happened to $700? and my camera is working fine. I told him, I told him to package it up and send it back and if its "broken", I rather sell the parts. I wrote a 1 star Yelp review the same day, 23rd, of course Helen from Adorama has her generic respond and Jacob Gold called me within an hour. He promised that "we never go back on our words and if we promised you $700, that's what you are getting" and asked that I remove my Yelp review while he investigate. I believe in giving any business a 2nd chance so I agreed. Jacob promised to get back to me on the 24th. 24th passed, he did called on the 25th, but I was busy with my newborn and couldn't answer, he didn't leave a message nor email. I called him on the 27th, first thing he asked was for me to refresh his mind on what happened, I told him that I am the Yelp reviewer that you asked to remove the review while you investigate, Jacob promised to call me back on the 30th with an answer. 30th passed, I called him on the 31st, once again, Jacob said "refresh my mind on what happened", I said "really", all I want is an answer, I am the guy that showed you some courtesy my deleting my Yelp review and you can't give me an answer. Jacob started yelling over the phone that he's got more then one customer and "I did give you an answer", I said telling me you gonna call me back isn't an answer that I want for my an answer about the camera, he said "telling you I'll call you is an answer", I feel like I was talking to a 10 year old with a tantrum, he said she said. This went on for a while, I finally asked what about the camera? Jacob said there are some issues that's why they offered me $250, I asked what is wrong , he said he will email me, I told him that I recorded a video of my boxing up the camera and going through all the testing to show it was working 100%, I can upload it to YouTube and email him a link so he can verify that the camera is working. Jacob went ballistic, he yelled and accused me of trying to make more money with the YouTube video, he went on and on, and accused me of threatening him with the video, I couldn't calm him down, tried about 5 times, I said the video is for YOU to look at, but he won't calm down and accused me of a bunch of things. I said fine, anyone can look at the video and judge for themselves. Did get an email, stated that manual and av cables missing, which I stated to them, but I included a wide angle lens, a $260 lanc control, an extra battery and a few other accessories. Stated that "Gain" can only be controlled in "M" (manual mode" and can only be accessed through the menu. No chit, you can't adjust in AUTO mode, gain has 3 levels, low, medium, high, you must go into menu and assign a number to each gain, no assigning a number will leave the value at 0. They said the dv port isn't working, looks 100% working in the video. I don't know what the $700 promised was, even Jacob promised "we don't go back on our words", but 75% of $700 isn't 75% of $350 which is $250. Scam. I tried posting to their Facebook page for an answer, they deleted my post and blocked me, matter of fact, I saw several negative comments on their Facebook page regarding their services, they were deleted too. Video below.

I agree your post is hard to read without paragraphs but that aside, I also agree with you that Adorama seems to be treating you pretty bad.

I believe I'd ask them to send the camera back and then I'd list it for sale on a site like Fred Miranda.

I don't know much about video cameras but yours seems to be one that wedding photographers may be interested in buying.

Thanks Ed, they are sending back the camera and I am donating it to a local church. I am still shocked that Jack Gold from Adorama screamed at me over the phone, I wished I can write a good review but hopefully something this negative review can change how they treat customers.

I would not have bothered to spend even 1 minute to reformat his post. If he could not be bothered to do it right the first time and he obviously did not read it before he posted it, he does not deserve our help.

Don, I am not asking for anyone's help, if you anyone offered, that would be great for the community. Strange that everyone is so tied up about formatting and grammer, sorry for my bad English in advance. My point is, I wanted to make anyone else looking to sale their gears to Adorama to be aware of what to be expected, I wanted to share my experience so others don't have to. For a forum that's devoted to helping each other, to say you would not help based on someone not putting a period and a space between sentences is very small minded.

But the thing is, very few people will make the effort to plough through such a big chunk of text. I looked at this thread because I was interested, but when I saw your post, I couldn't be bothered. I still haven't read it in the re-formatted version. Sorry. Maybe one day I will. ;-)

I understand, thanks. It wasn't meant to be like that, I was just mad on how Adorama treated me and with a newborn next to me, I tried to type as fast as I could before he wakes up.
 
wow, that sounds pretty awful. i notice that folks at places like B&H and lensrentals always do their best to either address my concerns or answer my questions immediately or email or call when they say they will. i haven't done business with the adorama used department, and i can see why you're upset.
