These are all handheld:

In the center of the first pic left to the tree you might recognise two towers. The left tower is 1.75 miles away.

Also you might see the moon more or less in the center of the sky.

Both tower and moon zoomed in at pic 2 & 3.

I think the P610 is also a powerful and great camera, nice work.

Convenient if you don't know what time it is, you can check it from a tower 1.75 miles away :).
:-D

Yes, canpen - that's the new way:

Buying a camera for checking the time.

Nice job, hope you can post some pics that challenge the autofocus. How did you find the autofocus speed so far?

Thanks.

Well, so far I have taken 46 pics only due to bad weather.

As to the autofocus, it seems to me that it's quite OK at lower focal length, but of course, I've got more troubles at higher focal length.

A couple of minutes ago I took a handheld pic of the moon which worked pretty fine for me. I'll post it in one of the next moments.

I think the last moon shot is fine. And the first image is very sharp. The two towers was in weak light and maybe some haze? Hoping for more images.

Must be a good camera for carrying around. Or is it too light for full zoom? Shame it is "drowned" by P900 (big question, P900 got better IQ?).

Yes - dawn and no real sunshine.
Hoping for more images.
I promise - unfortunately the weather forecast is awful for at least a week.

That's a good question, eilivk. Maybe. For the moon, I chose the self-timer (2 seconds) in order not to "lose" the moon while shooting the picture.

On the other hand - one of the reasons why I chose the P610 instead of the P900 was that I didn't want to carry around a camera of the same weight as my DSLR.

I keep wondering about the difference of the IQ as well.

To me and my unsteady hands, the P610 is a camera rather for sunny weather.

Nice moon! Very sharp.

Mybe a little bright? I think it is much easyer to use manual mode when photograpying something so contrasty as moon and black sky.

Thanks! I guess these superzooms are sunshine cameras at full zoom. But also useful at shorter distances. If it's too light can put it on a tripod, got a small one in my shopping bag. The main question with P610 is some reports of "waxy" images and NR can't be turned completely off. But some say it can be worked around. Really like the look of the camera, and price here lower than SX60 and just over half of P900! But stabilization is better in P900 I guess.

If you got a tripod maybe you can "shoot" something in not so bright weather through the windows? And how is the zooming in and out? Smooth and fast? Can you see how many x zoom? Complaints about P900 in that respect.

Thank you.

I used S mode.

I'll try to be more courageous next time. :-)

Yes, I've got a tripod. But I'm not too fond of using it - too clumsy. But I might do this once - some time in the near future.

As to zooming in and out, I'm quite content with it. For me it has the right speed, because it's fast enough on one hand, but also give's me time to watch the change in the picture while zooming which at least now at the beginning I find very interesting.

So far I haven't found any information about how many x zoom there was. Only that bar on top of the picture where you can estimate the zoom and where you can see the change to digital zoom.

Seems to be a fine camera. Hope you get better weather. No other P610 discussions so it's up to you...

Thanks, eilivk.

Storm (up to 65 mph) and rain and snow and thunderstorm until after Easter won't be very helpful.

I'll have to read the manual instead of taking pictures.

Yes, but that's OK. Hope I can help someone else to come to a decision which camera to buy.

The same here, sleet, and snow on the hills and forecast more showers and thunderstorms, but sun later in the week. Did get some seagulls taking off lampposts, will try some landings. SX20 ok at 20 meters in good light.

This bad weather makes the start with a new camera quite difficult.
