Hi All,

What's the general consensus on MAC versus PC laptop for an amateur shooter just starting up?

I will want to backup with an external HD or Tbolt, and likely an online service. Photos to be shared mainly with friends and my children's soccer and bball teammates...

thanks for your input,

Brian

You guys have it all wrong.

Politically correct is about being polite:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/politically correct

Discrimination is about giving one person a job over another or giving preference to a person based on race / sex / etc..

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/discrimination

If you're gonna argue, at least use the correct terms for it all... ;-)
People being overly worried about being politically correct though often leads directly to discrimination, as I'm currently finding in my life.

Also political correctness is often politeness to a silly extent. I mean no offence if I describe someone as black and no one has ever been offended by it, but I've often heard it isn't politically correct.
Sure, but when it leads to discrimination, it's called discrimination. That's my point. Hate either all you want, but I've got no problem with someone being politically correct. I do disagree with discrimination in all forms.
That's like saying I hate people dying because of a bomb but don't hate the idea of the bomb being dropped.
Yeah, sorry not seeing the relation there.
I hate political correctness because more often than not in my experience it leads to discrimination. Someone being polite I have no issue with. Tbh I feeling this conversation is just arising because of a different common usage of political correctness in our respective parts of the world.
Very likely a local difference, though the Merriam-Webster English dictionary agrees with my understanding / use of it.

A bomb being dropped usually leads to people dying. I hate people dying therefore I hate bombs.

Political correctness usually leads to discrimination. I hate discrimination, therefore I hate political correctness.

Fair enough. Not a dictionary I've heard of before and I don't agree with it as a complete definition so I guess that's the source of our disagreement.

If you want your photos to look great, get an Apple.

Yup, gotta be local difference then. It's one of the more common dictionaries in the US.

Apple uses Intel integrated GPUs as the only GPUs on all of their laptops except for the high-end 15" Retina MBPs.

What makes the Retina screens look great is not the GPUs, but the use of high-DPI IPS LCD panels.

I have a MacBookPro from 2009 which doesn't have Intel integrated graphics and the graphics are great.

I also have a 10 year old Toshiba laptop with ATI graphics and, while not as good as the MacBookPro, are much better than the current PCs with Intel integrated graphics.

I know Apple is using Intel integrated graphics, but they're doing something different than the PC makers to get a totally different look.

Nonsense. Being honest and addressing the truth doesn't equal being impolite. From the same link:

How is that not in accordance with ignoring, twisting, or lying about the truth to make people feel better? It's the same thing, except my definition is not trying to be politically correct. Mine gets to the nitty gritty of it, the avoidance of truth. Even dictionaries are polluted with the madness of political correctness.

In some situations it could be a fine line, but truth should still prevail. Your definition is an over simplification of the definition and certainly doesn't apply in many cases.

How can truth prevail if you are so afraid of hurting someone's feelings that you are willing to ignore, twist, and lie about the the truth?

No, my definition IS the definition of political correctness. Merriam-Webster, not surprisingly tries to be politically correct about, though the definitions are the same, an avoidance of truth.

Political correctness is insanity.

Just because you don't make people hate you, or make other people feel bad because of your insensitive comments doesn't mean you're twisting, ignoring, or lying about the truth. Obviously you don't and won't get that. To be clear its black and white over simplified opinions on BOTH SIDES of any of these sensitive topics that cause problems.

Obviously it does, for the truth is upsetting to many people. Political correctness then causes people to say and do things to avoid the truth so as to not upset some people that can't handle the truth.

You have this illogical idea that being truthful means you are wanting to offend other people. Political correctness was created by people who can not handle the truth.
To be clear its black and white over simplified opinions on BOTH SIDES of any of these sensitive topics that cause problems.
No, it is people that always live in gray and subjective worlds is the cause of problems.

Welcome to my world. I've been living here since about 1965. I hope, wish, and pray that no one you love has to stay here very long if ever. I tend to see the uglier side of life because that is what others have shown me. I apologize for upsetting you and I apologize to the Forum for taking this so off topic.
