You guys have it all wrong.
Politically correct is about being polite:

Discrimination is about giving one person a job over another or giving preference to a person based on race / sex / etc..

If you're gonna argue, at least use the correct terms for it all... ;-)
People being overly worried about being politically correct though often leads directly to discrimination, as I'm currently finding in my life.
Also political correctness is often politeness to a silly extent. I mean no offence if I describe someone as black and no one has ever been offended by it, but I've often heard it isn't politically correct.
Sure, but when it leads to discrimination, it's called discrimination. That's my point. Hate either all you want, but I've got no problem with someone being politically correct.
Then you have no problem with ignoring, twisting or lying about the truth to make yourself or others feel better about themselves.
In some situations it could be a fine line, but truth should still prevail. Your definition is an over simplification of the definition and certainly doesn't apply in many cases.
How can truth prevail if you are so afraid of hurting someone's feelings that you are willing to ignore, twist, and lie about the the truth?
No, my definition IS the definition of political correctness. Merriam-Webster, not surprisingly tries to be politically correct about, though the definitions are the same, an avoidance of truth.
Political correctness is insanity.
