Image samp posted les from Nanoha 5x macro E mount

I just posted a review with samples from the obscure but fascinating Nanoha 5x macro lens for E mount here , if you're interested in hyper-macro work.
Or you could settle for a 4:1 at a lens to subject distance of 210mm on a NEX-7 ;-)

Nice work Dave from a very unusual lens. Good to see and don't you just love the DOF at those ratios. Well done.

Danny.

Great review with nice photos.

I tried to get super macro mode by adding an achromat to a 100mm macro at 1:1.

Very difficult to get sharp results due to the thin DOF.

The only light is from the LEDs on the front of the lens. But since your subject to lens distance is around 2mm, additional lighting wouldn't help. (On the Canon 1x-5x, the strobes were side mounted, but the subject-to-lens distance was several centimeters.

The drawback of the built-in LED is that there's no way to modify the quality of the light hitting the subject. And there's no way to reduce reflections if you can't angle the lights away.

I do, though I had to shoot nearly everything at f32 on that lens, there's very very very little margin for error on the dof below that.

I'm probably going to return to the Canon 1x-5x with a meatbones converter for the same reason. I love this realm of photography, but you really can't have any optical compromises at this range.
