Another busted up UPS package - Do U have this Problem too

There are no "local" stores where we live and yes, Sony is not carried by many retailers.

As I just posted in the similar thread, I did learn tonight that our shipments are not directly loaded onto the delivery truck from Austin, as I thought all these years, but rather are put on a trailer truck and brought closer to our area and then the individual delivery trucks load from it, so its a truck to truck loading in a non UPS facility. The UPS tracking info always shows its "out for delivery" from Austin, which is our nearest big city. This might be a reason why my packages seem to suffer more "rash" than some of the other that have replied. And so it could be even more of a local problem with those that are doing this remote handling.
regardless, I am still convinced that the B&H boxes are softer than others.

I just received a lens from KEH yesterday. The box was awesome. unblemished, taut skin.

a difference in the "edge" crush factor. In this post, there are 2 pictures of boxes: 1 from Adorama and 1 from B&H.

The Adorama box says: 32 lbs Edge, Size 75, gross weight 65 lbs.

The B&H box says: 29 lbs Edge, size 60, gross weight 50 lbs.

Notice that these two boxes, based on their size, are obviously different in edge strength and gross weight. I assume that the smaller box from B&H is rated less, because it is smaller in size and rated for less weight. Would be interesting to compare both equal size boxes from each. That could say a lot for the box alone, but nothing will hold up to delivery abuse!

PS: all posts are just my opinion!

On the second day of this thread I received three packages with final delivery by USPS. Two of those packages had come cross country via free Fed-Ex shipping from Wal-Mart and were really banged up. I finally concluded that the non critical cosmetic breakage to plastic base of the flip over waffle maker might have been due to a sharp forklift prong that did not quite slip under the bottom of the box.

Today, Wal-Mart ran a TV commercial showing forklifts speeding around a warehouse area. First chuckle of the morning.

The first pictures I posted could be from a fork lift, as the tear is not what I would normally expect. I don't think B&H would use forklifts to move their delicate shipments around.

The box showed as being received back by B&H yesterday, and today the new one arrived (it had been shipped right after I received the broken box one.

They asked me if I wanted it shipped by Fex Ex instead, and I said yes. It turns out Fed EX had an extra transfer that I didn't know about but saw in the tracking info and the driver explained how they do Express with one routing versus surface that comes via another driver. This box looked real good compared to the first one.

The lens seemed fine inside too, but I did find a tear on one of the seams on the bottom of the box, that was pretty evident once I unloaded the contents. I was going to take another picture, but decided enough is enough. No problem with the lens but even though the shipment showed much less handling issues, the box still ended up with this tear. It was on an edge where there wasn't any bubble wrap. The Customer Service person requested shipping to put extra bubble wrap in and it was done, but it was on 5 of the 6 sides, including the bottom, but one end was against the cardboard box. It sure doesn't seem to take much for it to rip.

I'll add my $.02. I received an order with two boxes last Wednesday and both boxes had tears in them. The larger box didn't have anything easy to damage or small enough to fall out, so no harm done. The smaller box was supposed to include four mini matthelini clamps but one was missing. The tears were large enough for a clamp to have fallen out.

I sent photos of the box to B&H and they're shipping me a replacement clamp with no hassles. However, I do think the boxes B&H use are sub standard. I receive packages through UPS a lot, and the boxes from B&H always seem in worse condition than from anyone else.

In Korea, when you order a camera they ship with you bubble wrapped.

When I order my A77ii it came with this. It was 3 or 4 times wrapped completely secured

to make sure there will be no damage further during shipping process.

For U.S, I think this kind of customer service is lack over there. Electronics are very sensitive equipment therefore, it should be packed carefully and send it to customer. Not by airbags.

Recently, I ordered 70-300G bulk lens and it was also bubble wrapped.

I think bubble wrap is more important than airbag.

I recently ordered a pair of headphones from Amazon that UPS tracking showed as having been delivered, but I never got them. I contacted Amazon and they sent out another pair which I got. When my next-door neighbors got back from visiting their daughter out of state a few days later, they came over to give me the first pair of headphones that was sent out and sat on their porch for over a week. Literacy, folks. It's a valuable skill.
