This long-running thread started way back in 2009.

This is number 101

GUESS THE PLACE RULES

These are the rules for this continuing thread:

I will post a picture of a place on Earth in this thread. The person who guesses where it is (with my approval) can then post a new image of somewhere on Earth. And so on.

Both the city/town/area and the country must be stated.

It doesn't matter if it's really hard but keep in mind that people must have a chance to guess it. If nobody has guessed it after 48 hours, a new image may be posted by anyone. If more than one person posts a picture, the first image is in play.

New images must be posted as replies to the original message. All guesses must be posted as replies to the post containing the image.

All makes of cameras are welcome.

The next image follows this post.

On the Lord Protector's Road.

Natural History Museum, South Kensington?

Not obvious but there should be enough info. What port?

Every photograph is an abstraction from reality.
Most people are more interested in the picture than the image.

As noone else has had a stab I'll try my luck...

Going by the badge and the very Indonesian look of the youth I'll guess that we are in France...

At Vannes. The Young man is from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Surabaya and is competing at Atlantic Challenge International that was held in July last year. It looks like Indonesia came in eleventh over all.

Well done, Charles. Over to you.

Sorry for the delay, we have a 10 day old to try and figure out ;)

Where was my wife standing:

This should be an easy one

Somewhere south of 38 S

No takers for the free turn so here's one that at first sight breaks the rules. Where in this world was I?

Should be easy!

Maybe you took a photo of the Buzz Aldrin photo on display at Breese Little, a gallery at 30b Great Sutton Street, London?

On reflection, I doubt whether they would have had a print that size on display but I don't have time for more research right now.

Given the size of their gallery I'd say you're right. :-)

Anyway, definitely not London.

Sorry, not Paris. A much smaller town. These might help.

You got it HansAlbert. Whenever I go there I'm amused thinking about all the 'Can I make poster size prints from my xxx camera?' posts that you see on here.
